geovalin
The National Police reported yesterday that so far this year the traffic accident rate in Cambodia has decreased by 729 cases, equivalent to around 23 percent, compared to the same period last year. National Police Spokesman Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun said that in the first nine months this year, 2,430 traffic accidents were recorded compared to 3,159 cases in the same period last year. The report also noted that the nationwide road fatality rate had decreased by 264 deaths, or around 17 percent, compared to the first nine months of last year when 1,521 people died. The number of injuries as a result of traffic accidents has also dropped by 22.41 percent within the same time frame, from 4,721 in 2019 to 3,663 this year, according to the report. Lt Gen Kim Khoeun said the substantial reductions have resulted from effective traffic law enforcement and more substantial awareness and education of the public. “The improvement of the traffic situation in Cambodia this year is due to the effectiveness of traffic law enforcement,” he said, adding that the improvement is also thanks to the policy of the National Road Safety Committee which restricts and punishes those who violate traffic laws. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50768934/2020-sees-a-decrease-in-traffic-accidents/
