Heavy rain brings minor flooding across Phuket

PHUKET: Heavy rains across Phuket last night and this morning have caused minor flooding across main roads, with motorists urged to exercise caution during the current weather.

Major roads in Patong were inundated, especially the northern end of Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd and the area around Patong Hospital, which continues to flood with each heavy rain despite a recent major project to upgrade the drains in the area.

Elsewhere on the island, minor flooding affected traffic in front of Cherng Talay Municipality offices on Srisoonthorn Rd in Cherng Talay and in front of Dowroong Wittaya School on Chao Fa East Rd in Wichit – both areas also still prone to minor flooding despite recent work to upgrade the drains.

Never mind just near the Hospital lol... the same road pictured 200Pi was only re-newed with drains last year along with  so called drain  improvements to Nanai year before (just made it more leathal with metal gratings ???) 200 pi rd had raised man hole covers left at end of works,  If anything the flooding has gone worse than before the drains were done - sounds impossible but any local will tell you it true... Money just wasted hand over foot and straight into the back pockets of A-hem... Hello & Welcum!

At least now middle rd between Hospital and end of Sansabai isnt under 4 feet of water anymore as it used to be...

Ah yes, the old "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff" routine where the flooding in the road is not too bad until the sand/silt/mud goes through the metal gratings and blocks up the drains again, and although the water is not as bad, the drains are full of aforementioned mud et cetera as is the road.

Whoever dreamt up that "solution" had no idea what they were doing because the metal gratings make the road dangerous for motorbikes, not only because they can become slippery, but because they are uneven, and of course they make a noise.

I've yet to see one drain anywhere on this island that would pass muster, in any way, shape or form.
