Thailand Road Carnage: Horrific pictures after Volvo driver's death

Picture: Daily News

Horrific pictures accompanied a Daily News story of a road traffic accident on Song Prapha Road outbound in Bangkok last night.

A Volvo 940 had hit a tree in the central reservation before spinning and wrapping around a power pole.

Don Muang police were soon on the scene with Poh Teck Tung rescue foundation and the electrical authorities.

The electrical people used a crane to make the power pole safe.

Poh Teck Tung used cutting gear to get to Chayarop, 23, who was dead behind the wheel.

Relatives and friends of the deceased were in tears at the scene.

A friend said that he had been following and saw what happened. They tried to help but couldn't locate their friend.

They had been at a house playing games and Chayarop was on his way home to his address near the accident site.

Police are examining CCTV.

Daily News made no mention of any consumption of alcohol in their report.

The upside of the story is that he did not kill anyone else, RIP,  regards Worgeordie

  • Volvos do, or at least used to have a good reputation for strength and safety. To make one completely unrecognizable to what it once was would take some doing. But, of course this is Thailand and when

Volvos do, or at least used to have a good reputation for strength and safety. To make one completely unrecognizable to what it once was would take some doing. But, of course this is Thailand and when it comes to road safety, they don't do things by halves.

agree

and likely drunk as well

in the west you are unlikely to do such things because there is a high chance you will be caught and the penalties are severe, not in Thailand

"Chayarop, 23, who was dead behind the wheel"

I'm surprised he made it to 23 if that's how he drives.

That's a sturdy pole. The 940 is built like a tank. Must've been going near 200 km/h.

Volvos are top of the list for crash test safety. Must have been doing one hell of a speed to cause that damage. RIP young inexperienced driver.

In the west there is also a high chance your friends or family will take away your keys.

They do things by halves re road safety, they do things double, at least, by road carnage.

It's selfie time...

Looking like that tree trying to labour car. Strange not go through, that volvo is quite heavy car.

Sorry to be pedantic, but 1,000%,  what's that then?  How does that compare to a total of 100%, which can't be exceeded? I take it you are a footballer, they are always quoting playing at 110%, whatever they think that means.

Playing Games probably involved some sort of Thai " Drinking Games ".

Well, hes not on his way Home any more.

Watching the photos:

Conservative guess 200+ km p/hour?

Ok....the vehicle looks to have the damage that 77kph would do.....!

It looks like it's been crushed by a centurian tank!

Agreed, to do that amount of damage to a Volvo he had to have been going damn near supersonic

Ha!

I've had a couple 240's. Flying brick I used to call one.

poor boy. 23 yrs old is their best years and sadly he was taken.

RIP Chayarop. sadly missed but never forgotten

They should leave it as a work of art in tribute to the daily slaughter on Thai roads!

And I thought such car wrap was possible only in BeamNG Drive.. ????

Probably entered the realm of physics called Red Bull Relativity.  You know, 177 kpm really equals 79 kph.
