Pattaya: Mayor promises "New Look Koh Lan" - world class resort

Manager reported that Pattaya's strongarm mayor Sontaya Khunpluem and his entourage braved the rain to see how his development plans for Koh Lan island were proceeding.

The mayor has promised that Koh Lan will be a jewel in the crown of his fiefdom giving it the moniker of "New Look".

There are infrastructure plans afoot to create what he sees as a "World Class Resort" for the island that sits off Pattaya.

Sontaya toured various sights and spoke to the locals about his vision for the island as part of the Eastern Economic Corridor project.

Manager said that Koh Lan was now going to be an NEO.

However, here at Thaivisa we are a little in the dark as to what this may mean.

Pattaya Mayor wouldn't know a world class resort if it hit him in the face!

Isn´t everything regarding Pattaya world class by now? In any other case how fast can some talk while other work as slow as possible?

If your going to make a big announcement...Try and say something....

The only thing world class is the constant BS

Koh Larn is a special island without cars(nearly) and a good friendly atmosphere, please do not destroy this with mayor office world resort plans.

Use the covid time to clean up the island, that it needs.

From several visits with overnights I could use some more fun in the evening.

Work with the beachs, make them more nice and quiet, make good beach restaurants, and only one beach for chineese hords please.

Then I will love to come again.

By whom? That little spin, a jewel in the crown of his fiefdom, arises from a TVF web marketing writer's imagination. You bit. But there's one even louder dog whistle, heh.

About the imaginary "world class" that exists only in the virtual world TVF bashing? Well, but that was thrown in for the usual marketing purposes. It always works. For that to stop, then we'll have to stop trolling with it and salivating when it's used in a headline.

The original article says nothing about "world class" but merely notes that some improvements are planned with which our Urban Planners can all agree, except that the Mayor mentioned them. He says the island gets 5 million visitors a year. Obviously that does imply a need for more attention to the island's facilities & infrastructure.

NEO - Never Ending Orifice.

Have they demolished the cattle feeding grounds on China Beach yet? It used to be quite nice a decade ago, utterly spoiled by the hordes last time I saw it.

Let me guess, they will aim for 100k visitors daily too on that huge island.

Have you ever known an intelligent "urban planner". I know many that masquerade under that moniker.

Bridges to Hua Hin , mono rails , Bali hi redeveloped, Jomtiem redeveloped , underground toilets in Pattaya beach...where do they find the time....

Troll post reported and removed.

World class, world beating are new terms that mean total failure. Trumps world beating testing, the UKs' track and trace. Pattaya World Class resort... Koh Larn (Lan) was world class 50 years ago and now is an island covered in rubbish sitting in a sea of pollution waiting for the developers to cover it in high rises and high end resorts with private beaches.

The mayor

''Hold my beer...''

First it was Pattaya, then it was Jomtien, now it is Koh Larn.... if the ultimate desire is to shift several thousand Chinese tourists back and forth from Pattaya each day, as it previously was, it will reinstate itself as the biggest tip in the Gulf of Thailand.

My beef would be that everything the authorities have built has turned to poo.

Marina- collapsing disaster

Beach walkway- collapsing disaster

Bali Hi- nasty concrete car park that didn't work destroyed the nice park. The pier itself is falling apart.

Waste water plant by Walking Street- what <deleted> thought a stinking ugly building should be built right beside Pattaya's main tourist attraction?

The blue concrete park by Bali Hi- falling apart.

Third Rd- built through fields and too narrow.

The beach- washes away after a bit of rain

Rainwater drainage- need I comment?

Tunnel at the top of South Rd- took years and was a traffic disaster for all of them.

Other disasters the council is responsible for:

The big building by Bali Hi that was permitted in the wrong place

Allowing the speedboats to park along the road to the lighthouse and destroying the nice walkway

Not moving the north bus terminal to Dolphin corner when they had the opportunity

Not replacing the collapsed walkway from northern Pattaya beach around the headland.

The only things, IMO, built properly in Pattaya were constructed by private enterprise. If the council redevelops Larn it'll be a disaster like everything else they touch, IN MY OPINION.

Is he going to cull all the wild dogs?  Get rid of the unsightly rubbish dumped anywhere and everywhere?  If he can't get taximeters to work in the fiefdom of Pattaya, I don't hold out much hope.

Not able to produce anything like a world class resort
