Hi,

My current retirement extension is about to expire.

My question is, due to the current amnesty extension (30th Nov) can I wait and renew my extension until the last week in November? Or possibly apply for a 60 day extension?

There are valid reasons for wanting to do this.

To stay longer than the 31st when the current amnesty ends you would have to apply for 30 day extension.

Not sure you can apply for the 60 day extension yet.

Does being married to a Thai make any difference to a short term extension?

If married to a Thai you could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife. It would extend your current extension and you could then apply for the one year extension near the end of the 60 days.

Hi ubonjoe.

That is good news.

Do I just need my wedding certificate and the wife's I'd card? And the usual copies.

If you wish to renew your extension based on retirement, do not mix your retirement extension with the amnesty. If you let the retirement extension expire, the amnesty will not "extend" it into a renewal. You will need to start the retirement visa process all over again.

I am not a fan if all immigration rules but in this case I think it is simply logical.

Please tell us all in case the same applies to other retirees.

Hi,
The saga continues.
Went to Chonburi immigration on Thursday submitted my documents to transfer visa to new passport, no problem.
When I attempted to submit my request for a 60 day extension (to my existing retirement extension issued in Chonburi) I was turned down flat. I was told it was "impossible"? He didn't even look at my documents.

Today went to Chaeng Wattana to try.
There I was told I have to change my Address back to Bangkok where I reside.

I was told to go to Muang Thong Thani to do this.
I have no idea where/what this is or what documents I need!

In addition they want me to show 800,000฿ in the bank, for a 60 day extension???

Would greatly appreciate any help/advice with this, I have never heard of this before.

Hi,

I've been told by several people that it can be done, including ubonjoe.

The reason for the request is I need time for my money to "season". It was late in coming. (Covid problems)

He was wrong. The 60 day extension can be applied for with any type of extension or entry to the country.

Perhaps go back again and you will get an officer that knows the rules.

Was your wife with you? She has to be with you when you apply.

Hi,

Many thanks, I suspected that was the case. My wife was with me.
I think going back to Chonburi is a waste of time. Using the "section38" app I have found they have my Bangkok address on record, cannot prove address in Chonburi as I am no longer there.

If I go back to CW empty handed I'll likely be shown the door.

To compound the problem my visa expires today. Not entirely my fault I had to wait until this morning for Chonburi to return my passport.

No offense but my above posts are all incorrect as you did not mention marriage in your OP. Sort of serious info omitted.

Anyway back to assistance....a 60 day extension to visit wife (I'm pretty sure) will be applied for at MTT and not CW.

Hi,

You are correct I should have mentioned the wife. I am trying hard to play by the rules but am getting extremely frustrated. Never had this problem in 37 years of living here.

I've heard of MTT, could I bother you for the address? Although my visa expired today!

Many thanks.

Have a read of this thread. Note do not rely on google maps for location.

Note thinking online appointment is required. Check it out.

What makes you think you can obtain a 60 day extension to an annual extension of stay based on retirement?

Presuming one has not been obtained on the Permission to Stay it should be allowed. That could go back many years I guess.
