Convert ED to O Marriage Visa In Thailand?

Featured Replies

My ED Visa is going to be coming to an end in January 2021. I got married during the time I've been on the ED Visa. Can I convert the ED Visa to an O Marriage Visa (using the 400K option) here in Thailand? If not, are there any other options to handle this in country?

Thank you in advance.

You cannot convert your visa.

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage near the end of your current extension based upon attending a school. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months on the day you apply for the extension.

OP, you have your answer above.

There are many threads re additional requirements. Such as photos and proof of marriage etc. Good your using money in bank as very straight forward.

After initial approval make sure money remain in the bank for "under consideration" period, after that it can be withdrawn as required.

Yes.

You entered on a non O (Ed).

All you are doing is changing the reason that your extension is based on.

You do not need to exit Thailand.

So does this continue year on year once you've changed the reasons for extension from ED to marriage? I'm thinking about doing this and I definitely don't want to leave Thailand while covid is happening. So the ED visa is kind of in blocks of 3 months I guess right because every 90 days they stamp it and it says its extended and you can do that like 4 times and then you've got to get another 12 month one. So you guys are saying when your near the end of the ED (mine ends in 4 months) I can get married and change my reason of stay to marriage and extend for one year, presumably with the usual 90 days reporting. So its not converting to a marriage visa, it's just changing the reason of stay. Then at the end of that 12 months what happens, I just go in and ask for another 12 months with marriage for the reason and can just keep doing that? Thanks

After changing the reason for your extension of stay from attending school to one based upon marriage to a Thai you can apply for new extension year after year.

Your original entry that allowed your stay in the country will always be from non-ed visa.
