webfact
"No more blood" - veteran MP explains his actions, apologizes to speaker Picture: Daily News Veteran Pheu Thai MP Wisarn Techateerawat returned to parliament yesterday after his now infamous arm slashing gesture. He proclaimed to the waiting press that he performed his actions because he wanted no more blood to be shed by Thais. And he wants more decisive action from prime minister Prayut Chan-ocha in addressing the democracy protesters' demands. He has also apologized to house speaker Chuan Leekpai. Picture: Daily News Earlier during a debate on the protests currently sweeping Thailand, Wisarn had produced a knife and slashed his arm three times. Chuan called a temporary halt to proceedings and Wisarn was taken to Vachira Hospital where he was patched up with nine stitches. Wisarn was criticized for bringing a weapon to parliament. He says he got the small knife from a maid in the building. Wisarn explained to the waiting banks of press on his return that he had seen enough trouble over the years from the bloodshed during the Thammasat protests of the 1970s though to the political conflict of the last decade. He was prepared to shed his own blood so that there would be no more shed by the Thai people, he said. He said that he was driven to his actions by what he perceives as inaction from the prime minister. Picture: Daily News He believes that a representative of the "dek" (in this case he means students) should present their case for the removal of the PM. Regarding other matters - he was referring to potential constitutional changes related to the constitution and the monarchy - those could wait until later. He was prepared to "graap" ( a gesture of respect and forgiveness) to the PM if he would listen. Daily News reported that speaker Chuan - himself a veteran of parliament aged 82 - was passing on his way to visit Wisarn and listened intently to his words. Wisarn showed his apology to the speaker by giving a deep "wai" to Chuan further explaining the reason for his actions. Popular Post yellowboat
Lovely stunt, but cha cha would gladly stick that knife in all MP's right eye to retain power. cha cha is calling his cling to power noble like all deluded man babies. We all hope Malaysia's prime minister gets voted out soon. He tried calling for emergency powers too. The ousting of the Malay PM will spur more in Thailand to ask cha cha to resign. If cha cha does not go, somebody will probably get hurt. 4

Popular Post Flying Saucage
A very strong symbolic act of Wisam to support the protest movement for democracy. You cannot compare the Thai parliament with a parliament in democratic pluralist country, where such actions rightfully would be seen as ridiculous. But this here is Thailand, and the Thai parliament is full of currupt generals, able and willing to kill the citizens of the country just to protect their troughs. In that totalitarian environment, this move of Wisam is a very powerful personal contribution to the protest movement. Kudos for that! Popular Post animatic
This is a Shinawatra block guy, supporting FF protestors, so it appears a shift the pm’s party will not like at all.

Popular Post JesseHumphry
The response here is pretty weird. People calling him 'unhinged' and 'unstable'. Like... What is he supposed to do? Nothing? Keep his mouth shut? Harm someone else? He took an action that would get eyeballs looking at him and ears listening. That's the point of a protest. That's the point of an action like this. And the only person he hurt was himself. We're talking about an absurdly corrupt government that has shown a total lack of interest in the concerns of its citizens. This seems like an MP that pulls a stunt to try to do something to change something. The problem is that people who don't want to listen will make up excuses on why his actions were wrong, but it doesn't matter what action he takes; it would always be wrong in their eyes. Speak up? Wrong. Hurt someone? Wrong. Hurt yourself? Wrong. Protest peacefully? Wrong. Protest violently? Wrong. The only 'right' answer for these authoritarians is full, total, willful compliance. And that's not an option in a society that wants to be free. Edited October 28, 2020 by JesseHumphry 11

People in this country are suffering. I have invested $500k and now at age of 60 need this government to help us financially due to their stupid decision of closing the borders for such long time. No relief package and no defend of our investment. Just corruption and stealing peoples money!!!!!

I would say that the EU parliament isn't any better, all those unelected bureaucrats in Brussels that no one can vote in, and no one can vote out. He have proven many times that they are anti-western and anti-democratic, the union is causing more bad then good, the EU also do not respect member States constitution, and yhy forget the hell the have created by turning the northern and Western Europe into a new middle East, it's just a matter of time when the union will collapse, we all know ( except the blinds) what happened in 1991. To Americans, Canadians, Australians and new zealanders and others, be grateful that you are not part of the madness in Brussels. be grateful that your country is actually democratic. We don't need a EU to trade with each other, there is something called world trade organization, but Germany is well known for trying to be the boss, they have a history of that.

DrTuner
I'm not sure these stunts work as intended. They might bring attention for a day or so, but are then promptly forgotten as a gimmick. Politicians should be able to throw daggers with their words instead of slashing their arms.
