Advice given to me many years ago. 'It's easy to speak enough Thai to get you into trouble, but hard to speak enough to get you out of it.' That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.????

So true.  My wife didn't speak English when I met her.  After 42 years of marriage, I still make the mistake of speaking Thai/Isaan sometimes.

After lost money at road shake downs to cops who speak some English I have now started to only speak in Swedish with them, even if I can speak, read and write Thai. Most of them let me go after five minutes without any made up traffic fines paid.

I use Hungarian for the same purpose. NOBODY except Hungarians speak Hungarian and the language sounds completely different to all other European languages. ????
