Sanook reported that a husband and father of three sons attacked his wife and one of his boys in a house in Nakhon Phanom in the north east of Thailand.

When they were unconscious from head injuries he set fire to the house.

He ran out of the house and told neighbors that he had killed his wife and son. They made a citizens' arrest but were unable to do anything to save the victims as the house was already a blazing inferno.

The assailant had been ill but had stopped taking his medication and suffered a paranoid attack.

The provincial governor, local district chief and many senior police were on the scene following the fire that took an hour to extinguish.

Inside were the charred remains of a 48 year old woman and her 14 year old son.

Taken into custody was a 50 year old man.

Two other boys were not in the house at the time of the incident.

Kahon Phanom police chief Pol Col Pladech Petchranangoh said from evidence gathered and witness statements it appeared that the husband attacked the heads of the victims with an object until they were unconscious.

He then set fire to the house before telling neighbors what he had done. They were unable to do anything as the house was already ablaze.

He had been ill for months but had stopped taking his meds and had been drinking alcohol. He suffered a paranoid attack.

Sanook called it all a terrible tragedy.

It happened in the village of Ban Phonsawan, Muang district, Nakhon Pathom about 8pm on Thursday.

So the first area is in the north East of Thailand the 2nd is west of Bangkok... poor reporting again.

As for the father/husband, back room & an injection is the way to go.

The first response to this article is anger and then you realise he probably didn't have any control over himself so that is just sad.

His decision to cease taking his medication should have triggered an intervention following a report from the family but alas that probably didn't happen.

RIP the deceased and when he is again rational he will need to deal with his guilt for life.

No winners here.

I would suggest that setting light to the house after probably killing his wife and son had little to do with not being in control....

I would suggest that if you had first hand experience of this type of illness you might see that some have little or no control of what's going on inside their heads. It's sad and there's not much that can be done to stop it.It's one of the hardest things to have to deal with.
