Industry Ministry opens bio-industrial zone in Chonburi

CHONBURI (NNT) - The Ministry of Industry has opened Asia’s first bio-industrial zone which is expected to create jobs for more than 8,000 local people and create economic value of more than 100 billion baht.

 

Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has visited the factory of the Thai Eastern Group in Khao Chok subdistrict, Nong Yai district, Chonburi province. It is an agricultural plant for the processing of oil palm, rubber and Napier grass renewable energy. It is considered Asia’s first Bio-Circular-Green Economy. The company has applied for permission for its establishment in the Thai Eastern industrial zone which the Ministry of Industry declared the 26th industrial zone on October 9th.

 

The investment value of the first phase of the Thai Eastern industrial zone is approximately 20 billion baht. It is considered a target industry suitably located in the Eastern Economic Corridor or EEC, which will help farmers develop quality products to feed the bio industry, create stable incomes for farmers, and jobs for 8,000 local people over three years, while generating economic value of 100 billion baht per year.

 

The government aims to make it a center for the creation of qualified personnel, technology and innovation, intended to support expansion in the downstream bio industrial sector, in the future.
