Bespoke Rolls-Royce Inspired by Earth

BANGKOK: Getting inspiration for a fabulous new design for a customer’s bespoke Rolls-Royce Wraith can come from almost anything, welcome to the one off Rolls-Royce ‘Wraith – Inspired By Earth’.

Commissioned in Abu Dhabi, the client wanted to take cues “from the entire Solar System”.

On the outside that means a base colour of Royal Blue – representing the 75 per cent of the Earth’s surface that is covered by water. Then there’s a unique extraordinary bonnet. An air-brushed image of the Middle East as seen by a satellite and is centred on the United Arab Emirates but also includes the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. The bonnet artwork took over 100 hours to complete.

In a rare interview Michael Bryden, Lead Bespoke Designer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “We’re used to clients bringing us grand visions for their Bespoke Commissions, but this provided a new perspective altogether. In our response to the brief, we’ve worked at both the ‘macro’ level, referencing the Sun and planets of the whole Solar System, and the much more personal ‘micro’ level, centring our view of the world on the place the customer calls home.”

By contrast, the interior aesthetic focuses on the Earth’s surface and the human and natural life that inhabits it. The seats are made from Moccasin leather to mimic the sands of the Emirates’ deserts; Navy and Cobalto Blue accents are suggestive of rivers and lakes and Emerald Green piping symbolises nature in all its forms. Arctic White ‘RR’ monograms and stitching hint at clouds.

The Bespoke Starlight Headliner is embroidered to illustrate all the planets of Solar System, centred on the Sun. Other Bespoke details include treadplates, a clock with metal radial background, and inlays showing the planets in silver, with planet Earth accentuated in gold.

There’s no word on how much this one-off Wraith cost its owner but it is most definitely higher than the $330,000 base price for Rolls-Royce’s superlative automobile.

Headline sounds like something  from "nonsense sentence generator". Story also seems to be from same source. "Inspired by earth & aiding in destruction... the yin and yang... alpha and omega..." ought to be a part of this hype

I can only shake my head at the sheer waste.

The greed and self aggrandisement beggars belief.

I sympathise with you, being someone who could not spend money like this even if I had millions.

But consider this..... all the excesses of the rich feed the world economy in some way..... their expenditure filters down as companies employ people to create this sort of thing, and the employees use their salary to buy stuff and pay taxes. Not a direct help to the less fortunate in their immediate locality but contributing nevertheless to the world.
