There has been no progress in setting up a reconciliation committee, as it is waiting for more members with a practical approach, Parliament President Chuan Leekpai said on Friday.

He said there had been no official approach to any person to join the committee, emphasising the need for practical people to solve problems. He added that previous committees could not achieve their goal with only a theoretical approach.

He said that the meeting about the setting up of the committee saw the need for seven sectors to be represented, while King Prajadhipok's Institute believed that it was hard to accomplish that soon, so the panel should start to work with the existing four sectors.

Some guidelines to prevent conflict were also seen as impossible but some still had a silver lining, such as the southern insurgency, he said.

Chuan, who is speaker of the House of Representatives, clarified that the committee was not being established to lessen the opposition’s duties, and it was only meant to create harmony.

Where do I apply as a non-interested party.  An outsider with a view inward might be helpful.  Maybe they need a Think Tank set-up, but then do they even know what a Think Tank is....

Meetings and committees. The root of all your problems.

Oh yeah I forgot, they must also must be related to someone in the 1% or aligned to a certain military faction and drive a Beemer or Merc . ????

isn’t it an armoured vehicle that can be used to destroy anyone who may have ‘incorrect’ thoughts?

Yes, they need some outside-the-box thinking. How can they not give a single inch but appear like they’re giving something of significance to people who are smarter than them.

Oh, well - another coup it is, then.

I'll throw my hat into the ring!

However I can only provide logic into the equation, which maybe above the

intelligence of those government blokes I'm supposed to work with!

The most important thing for reconciliaton is that honest people take part, people who not only show a minimum of intelligence, but also who are really interested in introducing transparency, freedom of speech and the protection of human rights, and most importantly in increasing the well being of all the people in the country, rather than that of their own cronies and families only.

I can't see any of such people having these aims in the rows of the powers that be. Not one single person. Nobody. So how can reconciliation ever happen under these conditions?

The classical "problem-solving approach" of the generals and the yellow shirts:

Firstly prosecute the opponents with the countries fascist rubber-band laws. When sentenced later by these laws, the opponents easily can get lifetime for having done nothing. If that does not work, send the police with tear gas and rubber bullets to the demonstrations. If that still does not work, escalate the situation by infiltrating the protests with agents-provocateurs, and when the intended violence breaks out, finally send the army with its tanks and snipers, apply martial law and sentence all the "trouble makers" in military courts.

Problems solved.

And after all that, start again talking about "reconciliation".

Yes, new and practical approaches, just what we're going to get from an ossified relic of the past like Chuan Leekpai, who was famous for doing absolutely nothing but talk when he was PM. I'm sure that this marvelous new committee will have everything sorted and a practical plan for reconciliation that makes everyone happy, even without the main opposition people involved!

And just last week he met with every un-exiled "elder statesman" he could lay his hands on, they must not have been very practical..., yup live and learn.

Historically, no idea suggested by a falang will ever be considered in Thailand, no matter how good.
