Thanks... English is not my first language... but imagine that you know what i meant. ????

It’s an ambiguous turn of phrase, and generally interpreted wrongly.

Take for example, the rule that all odd numbers are prime:

mathematician 1: 3 is prime, 5 is prime, so by induction, all odd numbers must be prime

physicist: 3 is prime, 5&7 are prime , 9 - experimental error, 11, 13...

engineer: 3,5,7,9,11... are all prime

logician: 3,5,7 and 9 is the exception that proves the rule. But in fact there are so many non prime odd numbers and it is not a correct or useful rule

Understand ... the exception does not confirm the rule, but from Latin  "Exceptio probat regulam", where the verb probare actually has the meaning of "put to the test, examine" ...So here is the misinterpretation.

It's rare that a discussion on Thaivisa degenerates to classical scholarship.

Although no doubt someone will trawl through and find a dozen previous examples, for the sake of irony.

Social media is a good thing. The issue is when it becomes weaponised. We now have a situation where it is politised as well. My feelings are leaning towards breaking up these monopolies. I don't say this lightly as i am capitalist and libertarian. But monopoly capitalism and cronyist capitalism serves no one, no matter who you are and your views on life.
