PHUKET: Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Bunyamanee yesterday (Dec 11) called for local administrations to ramp up their efforts to help reduce the number of road accidents in their areas.

The call came at the 3rd National Municipal League of Thailand, a national convention of representatives from 2,302 municipalities and tambon administration organisations throughout the country.

Also present at the event, held at the Angsana Laguna Phuket resort on Phuket’s west coast, were Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Chatchai Promlert and Department of Local Administration Director-General Prayoon Ratanaseni.

Ramp up their efforts,???????????????????????????? Their efforts are non existent.

Would appear Nipon thinks its time for his 15 minutes in the spotlight.

Exactly that Colin... They seem to think 15mins in the spotlight will be sufficient for the whole nation to take note.

Perhaps they should appeal to the Police to effectively enforce the perfectly reasonable existing road traffic regulations... this involves doing some work other than ‘directing traffic at rush hour and sitting in a police booth controlling traffic lights’.

Lots more deaths happen when you drive fast. So the government wants to boost safety right after they just changed the Speed limit on Thailand's highways. It has been increased to 120 kilometres an hour. The government has approved an official increase in the upper speed limit on Thailand's national and rural highways, with the aim of improving traffic flow. What's next? You'll need a James Bond car with turrets and missile launchers
