Social media in Pattaya was abuzz with rumors that the New Year "Countdown" at the resort would be cancelled due to heightened concerns after a Covid-19 outbreak in Samut Sakhon.

Soon mayor Sontaya Khunpluem responded to a Line group stating that there were no plans to cancel events at Bali Hai and on Koh Larn, reported Siam Chon News on Facebook.

Meanwhile, netizens in Bang Saen speculating on New Year events there were urged to get their news from official sources and not to panic. There were no new cases there.

Sontaya's relative Narongchai "Lek" Khunpluem is the mayor of Saen Suk district responsible for the beach resort of Bang Saen.

Doesn't seem prudent.

The same guy that promised a marching band competition....WELL?....I'm still waiting!

Is PLONKER an accepted description?

Well, we all know that things can change by the minute. Same about Songkran that was promised by various governors in April, which actually never happened.

With events cancelled in Bangkok a huge chunk of the Bangkok population will descend on Pattaya like a plague of locusts. Good for the local economy, if not the traffic, but....

Lets hope they leave the virus at home.

If the virus takes off in Bangkok....I doubt it will go ahead as planned.

Others above his pay grade will decide. The masters in Bangkok who appointed him in the first place to do their bidding.

Wow, the mayor has put on some weight! Life's good for some...

I heard there is currently a count down happening, on when the lockdown will start, and this statement will be flip-flopped

So through his bottom then!  He is supposed to be a strong man & hardliner yet can't seem to get his police to work; or his taxi drivers; or drains; you know the chorus by  now.
