International contributors have pledged to help conserve and develop Preah Vihear Temple. This commitment was made at the sixth plenary session organised by the International Coordinating Committee for the safeguarding and development of Preah Vihear Temple (ICC-Preah Vihear) yesterday.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Culture Phoeurng Sackona and co-chaired by the deputy secretary-general of the Chinese National Commission for Unesco Zhou Jiagui and Indian Ambassador Devyani Uttam Khobragade. Kong Puthikar, director-general of Cambodia’s National Authority for Preah Vihear, told Khmer Times that, in the meeting, the Indian government decided to repair the fifth gopura of Preah Vihear Temple.

Puthikar said: “India will send an expert to study and repair the fifth gopura of Preah Vihear Temple. India also wishes to help Cambodia to build a media centre in Preah Vihear province for tourists to better understand our temple and conservation efforts.” He said that the United States government will continue to support Cambodia to repair the north stairs of Preah Vihear Temple in 2021 with a $120,000 project.  “The meeting was successful.”
