Pattaya: Nurse in MG slams into back of truck trailer

Bang Lamung police and rescue services responded last night after a nurse in an MG car slammed into the back of an 18 wheel truck trailer carrying aluminium around 11 pm.

 

The accident happened on Sukhumvit Road in the direction of Sattahip near the entrance to the Nong Sadao road.

 

A 30 year old nurse at Bang Lamung hospital suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital.

 

Thaivisa notes that a poster on Siam Chon News updated that she had since died. This could not be verified elsewhere.

 

Soo, 68, the driver of the truck said that he had come out of the soi and was crossing over to the right hand lane in order to make a U-turn. 

 

He said he didn't see the car that went into the back of him. 

 

Police are studying CCTV to try and get to the truth of the matter.

    I doubt any small car that hits the back of a heavy truck at speed would  fare any better than an MG as it goes under the tray and then impacts the rear axle.

Those Chinese MG have a good crumple zone ???? ,

Expect it's the lorries fault ,too many crashes when

taking u-Turns.especially at night

You can see that this cheap piece of Chinese <deleted> has no strength or rigidity in the body design. Here in Oz they are only $15,000, half the price of a decent small car.  A modern day Lada !!

That's interesting.  So 350,000 Baht in Australia but upwards of 520,000 in Amazing Thailand.

 

That crash photo above just adds to the numerous reasons why I would not buy an MG.

The cheapest MG in Australia is the 2020 MG MG3 Excite at $19.000

Top of the range SUV is $40.000

Good crumple zone? Air bags are an extra even! No side bags, no passenger bags. the German TUV tests rated the MG SUV as 1 out of 10 for safety.   Note: In good head on tests at 80kph speed they expect the windscreen to remain in the car and the doors to be able to open.  MG Hardly!

They have absolutely nothing to do with the UK, they are designed and made in China! MG is not British!

Whether made in China or Thailand? I am not sure, but MG has taken over a big plant on the eastern board and will surely mount the cars in Thailand in the future.

Nonsense, the MG was designed with crumple zones. These absorb the energy. A rigid chassis transfers the energy to the occupants. The mg probably met European crash safety standards

 i'm wondering, as far as thai driving schools are concerned, how serious are they? so many road accidents,  daily!

Yes, you're quite right @Hound dog 100they are. The reason why the car suffered the damage that we see is not because of 'cheap Chinese <deleted>' @jaiyen, it's because large trucks here do not have under-ride bars fitted.

 

When a car hits the rear end, the nose goes under the back of the truck and this completely negates the protection afforded by the crumple zone. The damage to the windshield and the roof clearly indicate that they struck the tailgate of the truck.

 

Under-ride bars are a standard safety requirement in developed countries. They are often referred to as 'Mansfield bars' in the US because they are a direct result of the tragic accident that killed Jayne Mansfield in 1967.

If she was the same as a lot of drivers in my locality, drive fast and I can see fine so don't need my lights on, truck driver didn't look hard enough for an unlit car coming fast up behind, ergo accident. One possible scenario.

Yes, better not to associate these models with the old Morris Garages offerings. They are heavily promoted in Thailand though, many times occupying Mall floor space in the Pattaya area.
