This was likely an attempt to gain some "I'm fighting for the people, people!" brownie points for his presidential bid in 2024 and realised this could bite him back. He might be rude, erratic, bullyish... but he ain't stupid. And there are enough voters out there to give him a chance at getting back in office in 2024 as long as he stays in media spotlight for the next 4 years and does enough damage for the next administration to achieve nothing by next elections. Quite smart, actually. Though extremely damaging to the country and the people.

Biden has said more than once he intends to put in place a proper relief package like all the other countries which are acting like adults once in office.

I think 45 signed because he needed the $600. It's ironic, but because he loses money, he would qualify for the stimulus check, whereas anyone who is doing well does not qualify and won't receive any money.

Trump may have signed the bill but he has created only chaos by not signing few days early. The delay blown past the Saturday deadline to prevent an estimated 14 million people from temporarily losing unemployment insurance. The delay will cause millions to lose a week of benefits. His childish petulance in delaying the bill caused many people and companies to adjust their plans. The program to pay out the stimulus will be delayed as computers have to be programmed and the system organised for the payout. It is chaos for the people while Trump basked in his silly tease. 

 

The Dems will push for a House supplementary relief bill Monday but Mitch has no mentioned that he will take up the legislation. Most Kentucky GOPs caucus opposed the additional payment. Much internal turmoil in the Rep Party because of Trump's behavior. They deserved every party rift for being weak and tolerant of Trump last 4 years.  

Pelosi issued a statement AFTER Trump signed the stimulus bill, and it sounds like she's still going to have a House vote Monday on upping the total direct payments to $2000..... 

 

She also called on Trump to urge Republicans to end their obstruction and to support the $2000 direct payments proposal Trump made last week -- but I suspect the response will be.... crickets.

 

“Now, the President must immediately call on Congressional Republicans to end their obstruction and to join him and Democrats in support of our stand-alone legislation to increase direct payment checks to $2,000, which will be brought to the Floor tomorrow.  Every Republican vote against this bill is a vote to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny the American people the relief they need.”

Our government is totally broken.  When Trump shut down the government, thousands of employees didn't get a paycheck, while member of congress, Trump, his staff and cabinet members did.  Horrible.

 

These guys also get great medical benefits while millions of Americans don't.
