Timing of 90-day report / ed visa extension

Featured Replies

I'm going to be on an ed visa this trip, which ties me to one place most of the time. Ideally I'd like to travel around a bit, covid permitting. I need to sort out my accommodation in the next few days so am trying to figure out some dates.

I will have been in the country for 90 days around 10 March. I'm guessing you don't have to do the 90-day report on the exact date but am not sure how long they give you.

The first 90 days of my ed visa will be up around 20 April. I'm not sure how far in advance the extension can be done (14 days?)

Can anyone fill in the blanks for me? It sounds like I should have a window in mid Mar / early Apr when I'd be able to travel if there was a break in lessons.

You will not need to do a 90 day report until 90 days after you apply for an extension of stay based upon attending school.

The first extension of stay application is considered as doing a 90 day report by immigration.

You can do a 90 day report in person up to 15 days before or 7 days after the your report date.

After doing the first report you can do your reports online.

Assuming this is your first 90 day report, it will have to be made in person at your local Immigration Office, they will then give you the next date on your receipt, which can then be done online. The normal leeway depending on Office, is 14 days before and 7 days after, but being after could lead you to a fine on the "GRUMPY" days.

You'll need somebody else to advise on changing dates on moving to an ED-Visa.

Well that should make things simpler. I didn't actually say so but I came in on an SETV and will be switching to an ed visa towards the end of Jan - does that still count as an extension of stay and therefore a 90-day report? Maybe when the school says "you can now get an ed visa without leaving the country" they actually mean "you can now get an extension of stay based on attending school even if you didn't enter on an ed visa".

You first report will still be required 90 day from the day you apply for the extension of stay. The 90 day visas issuance date is the start of a new entry.

If you are able to apply for the non-ed visa you will be able to apply for the extension.

A week before or a week after the date expires is the rule placed on my ED visa by Phuket Town IO. I have always done it the day before it expired with the assistance of the principle of the school. Only ever takes maybe 10 minutes (even when the IO was flooded with falang people freaking out due to Covid visa related issues many months back). Just sailed into the specific office apart from the hoards milling around in the TV area, a photo, sign in, hand over papers, quick check of papers by IO and bob's your uncle.
