30 day visit to Thailand - Visa not required?

Featured Replies

Folks, I am planning to come to Thailand for 30 days from UK and when I checked the Thai visit site, it tells me I do not need visa as exempt for 30 days (tourism).
But if I put any longer than 30 days, it states I need to apply for visa. I don't want to end up at the airport and being demanded a visa there forth. Wanted to confirm if that is the case and if anyone is planning to go to Thailand for 30 days. I understand I will be stuck in a hotel for 15 days ASQ.

Thank you

u need certificate of entry though. its online.

Also the stamp u get in thailand is for 45 days to cover the ASQ stay.  read this link

You actually got an answer? I'd be very curious to know how you managed that. I tried calling and every extension rings and then plays a mailbox full message.

I hope you are monitoring our covid outbreak here in Thailand.  More restrictions are being implemented daily.  Some places have already closed pools and beaches and bars.  BKK has closed entertainment venues....There may be more closures and restrictions in the near future.  I would hate to come out of a 2 week quarantine and go straight into a lockdown.....

Not sure what site you were on.

Info for getting a certificate of entry from the embassy in London is here.

And on the site is some new info about the visa exempt entry.

That suggests the VE is only available to Non Thais owning property in Thailand, such as Condo owners, not your average Tourist.

For non-Thai who own property in Thailand

While Thailand still puts in place travel restriction, foreigners who own property in Thailand can apply for non-B visa and the Certificate of Entry to go to Thailand.

**Holders of British/Irish passports, as well as 54 other nationalities entitled to 30-day visa exemption, can go to Thailand for tourism purpose for up to 45 days without visa. Proof or air tickets and health insurance are required for COE application.**

Required documents :

  1. Your passport copy
  2. Copy of property ownership document (condominium) in Thailand, or proof of purchase of such property and relevant documents
  3. Copy of bank statements of a Thai bank account with deposit at least 3 million baht (approx. £77,000), or Thai government bonds at least 3 million baht
  4. Copy of bank statement of a UK/Irish bank account with deposit at least 500,000 baht (approx. £12,800) for the past 6 months
  5. Declaration form
  6. A copy of flight confirmation
  7. A copy of ASQ booking confirmation

That is only info telling people they don't have to apply for a visa. It does not mean what you think. Or maybe it is an error and should of been put in the one after it for tourist visas.

The info I posted came from the top of the page I posted a link to.

Confusing to also put it under the heading 'For Non Thai who own property in Thailand'.

Thai Embassy Canberra has finally read the CCSA visa exempt, and now approve.

Once getting into Thailand on the 30 days (new 45 days) visa exemption, is it possible to extend the visa without leaving the country?

You can extend your permission of stay from either a VE or TV entry (you can't extend a Visa) for 30 days as a Tourist, or, 60 days for visiting Thai wife/family.

You can apply for a 30 day extension of stay at immigration. You will have a permit to stay not a visa.

You could also apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry and then a one year extension of stay at immigration if you can qualify for one.

So as it is probable that areas will be locked down soon and you are planning on coming from the U.K. which has a more infectious strain. Your plan is unwise unless you are able to get vaccinated, then it will be at least after vacation that it will be effective.

Yes, but you don't really extend a Visa (and this is a Visa Exempt actually), but the permission of stay. There is also the possibility to convert the Entry to that of a Non-Imm-O.
