BANGKOK (NNT) - The Governor of Samut Sakhon, Veerasak Vijitsaengsri, has tested positive for COVID-19. He previously attended a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, and related officials. The Deputy Prime Minister, whose latest test result is negative, is now in quarantine for 14 days.

This morning, Mr. Anutin joined a meeting of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for COVID-19 via video conference. Public health officials attended the meeting to discuss efforts to control the COVID-19 situation in Samut Sakhon province.

Mr. Anutin expressed confidence that the country’s disease prevention system is capable of limiting the spread of COVID-19. This is due to the readiness of the public health system, the cooperation between the administrative, police and military sectors and the people’s understanding of the importance of disease prevention. These factors will help Thailand overcome the crisis again.

Mr. Anutin offered words of encouragement to public health officials, medical personnel, volunteers and related units, wishing them to be successful in containing the current outbreak. The Deputy Prime Minister also offered moral support to Samut Sakhon Governor Veerasak, as he has been working diligently for the people of Samut Sakhon. He wished him a speedy recovery and encouraged him to continue working to the best of his ability.

Concerning six army officials, who attended a meeting with the Samut Sakhon Governor on December 24, they were tested at Phramongkutklao Hospital, and their test results came back negative yesterday (Dec 28). Nonetheless, they are spending 14 days in quarantine, in accordance with the public health measures. The officials were led the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, Lt. Gen. Santipong Thammapiya, and the Deputy Spokeswoman for the Royal Thai Army, Col. Sirichan Ngathong.
