webfact
Many Bangkokians brave new Covid wave to return home for holidays By THE NATION Despite the new wave of Covid-19 infections, many people were seen taking interprovincial buses from Bangkok to their hometowns for the holiday period. Bus operators were also seen strictly complying with mandatory health measures to secure passengers’ safety. Before the new wave of infections, the Tourism Authority of Thailand had said it expected some 2.75 million people to go on trips over the December 31 to January 3 long weekend. It also said that tourism during the holiday period would inject more than Bt10.74 billion into the economy and result in 37 per cent hotel occupancy. Popular Post pkrv
Thailand, and many here, have been crowing about how marvellously the country has handled Covid-19 and now we get this response to the recent outbreaks: piecemeal restrictions, "lockdowns", mixed messages, poor examples, lack of leadership, etc. Basically everyone is free to run around and ensure the propagation of Covid-19 to the furthest corners of Thailand. So much derision of other countries handling, yet now I think Thailand this could be som nam naa. Edited December 31, 2020 by pkrv

Jonnapat
We should be careful not to criticise Thais too severely considering how the general population in some Western developed countries have behaved during national holidays. At least everyone wears a mask.

NanLaew
I would have thought that anyone claiming to be a 'Bangkokian' would actually live in Bangkok and wouldn't need to get on a bus or train to go 'home for the holidays'.
