'Just stay home' - Thai PM urges compliance as virus cases hit record

"This is up to everyone, if we don't want to get infected just stay home for 14 to 15 days, if you think like this then things will be safe, easier for screening," Prayuth added.

Ok. I stay home 14-15 days as directed. Does it mean that I'm safe to return to my life after this period? Nope! During my self-quaranteen 15 days people will still spreading the virus, so it is totally pointless without a mandatory full lockdown. After my 15 days I can just start an other 15 and an other, as long as the virus is spreading. With this logic and without lockdown they might as well open the country. There's no differnce between locals spreading the virus or visitors.

Sandy, you do realize many Thai's do not go to the hospital when they are sick with only minor symptoms, and government hospitals are always full with a very long que.  You folks that believe that if the regular non government hospitals are not full or people are dying that Covid is limited here in Thailand.  Think again Sir.  Enjoy your day.

I have been going to Bang Saen hospital regularly for years, was there again this morning. Very quiet, even more so than previous lockdown, when they actually had some cases. This was the waiting room for internal medicine at around 9am, a position that is the envy of most other countries.

Pre covid, would have been standing room only at that time of day,

Most people don't rush to hospital when they are sick with minor symptoms, whatever the issue. So that's an irrelevance. People buy proprietary medicines and if that doesn't work go to a pharmacy for advice. If more serious or worsening, they may go to hospital.

Non government hospitals aren't empty. They have numerous patients, out-patients, with various issues being treated, including regular patients. I have to see a specialists every other month so visit hospital regularly. Always usually busy, with checks on the door before entry by a nurse.  Use some other hospitals too, same there.

There hasn't, AFAIK, been any mass hospitalizations due to Covid 19 or its variants in Thailand. There most certainly has in other countries. That might be due to a number of reasons, all which would be speculative.

The problem at present, is IME, complacency was setting in, guards were being dropped, a few people went back to their old business habits and opened the lid on spreading it much more widely. How this will be contained, if it can be, and the effects of a near doubling of cases in less than a month (14th December to 4th Jan) is the real question. And this will be a significant test.

Quite.

I think you are right about complacency, things were getting close to normal and obviously there are those that think rules are for other people, about the only thing that covid has in common with road deaths.

With the numbers doubling there has to be some concern but it should be kept in perspective. The government can only do so much, at the end of the day people's actions will be the deciding factor.

At 50,000 cases a day Bojo said full lockdown wasn't required, when the figure got to 58,000 in a day he had to think again.

The whole world complements-Thailand for the fantastic job they have done p containing the virus. But certain pathetic Thai bashers on this forum do everything they can to belittle the great job that Thailand has done. Whilst in their own countries the virus problem has been badly handled. Shame on them.

Oh stop. They had done a good job, up until the Sakorn breakout. Since then? They have failed dismally, done nearly everything wrong, acted slowly, and blown it completely.

That's it I had enough, I am going to stay in bed with my electric blanket turned on and wait for my Nurse-Chef to come see me everyday until this is all over.

Would that be Nurse Ratched?

Perhaps we need another vaccine for driving?

Should it be one to inject common sense and spatial awareness?

It seems only fair. They were getting so much praise when they had it under control. Now, they deserve to take the heat. This thing was easier to control here, than in many other countries. There were only two neighbors with real pandemic issues. Malaysia and Burma. Few were flying in. So, you keep those borders locked down. Get 10,000 soldiers on SUVs patrolling the hills, put some boats in the rivers, and warn the immigration guys on the border, that they will be looking at 10 million baht fines, that will be levied against their families for 100 years, and facing 50 years in prison, if they are found to be letting people who are sick across the border. And what did they do instead? Nearly nothing. Did they lock down Samut province, like San Quentin, the minute the cluster broke out? No. What did they do? Use color coded wrist bracelets. Wow. Such competence.

Such brains at work. Prayuth once again says responsibility needs to be shared. So, I ask. When was the last time he took responsibility for anything? Has he apologized? Has he admitted this happened on his watch, and it very possibly could have been prevented? If not, Prayuth should offer to resign immediately, and the people, and especially the youth, should demand that. It is their right to demand a competent leader, during an emergency, especially.

So my message to the administration is this. Man up. Admit you messed this one up badly. Admit the border could have been controlled if you had devoted the tens of thousands of soldiers required then, instead of now. You dropped the ball.

The border was porous both ways.
why were they allowing the Thai woman to work the Myanmar side and move freely back and forth? The blame should not only be placed on the migrants

This all happened due to sheer stupidity and stunning greed. Thailand is really going into a world of hurt now. Tourism will not recover for years and domestic tourism just died. Millions of jobs lost.

I often do not agree on your posts, but this is 100% on the nails head.

1/Malaaysians dont come to work here,

2/ burmese :they didn't come back home since 8 month so their boss let them back but they pay illegal groups to take them back in Thailand ; + covid in national market of Samut sakhon.

Border? what do u know about the army ? I live close to a navy base : The colonel told me that a lot of soldiers watch the border . They also use volunteers in the city for the night to control 150km...but do you know how long is this border? 2401km !!!

Did they lock down Samut province,

difficult decision : pressure of all local elected , companies...they find places to put burmese in quarantine and close all big roads. Give free food for local people (what about your country?)

sorry boyscout, you have no message to give : stay in your corner and take care yourself  . You never had to control a strong situation for hundreds, thousands , millions people. He has...and the result in 12 months is GOOD !

I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that? Please. Next time you make a post, try to devote at least two moments of thought to it.

sorry mister , nobody can believe you  reading your long complains about subjects you are not introduce to : politic, army, medicine. You probably marry a young lady in Isaan and be bored in your countryside but dont give the fault to the governement for all your bitterness.

And sorry, I know a lot of people in this country...you don't inform me in anything.

You have to accept a so different way of thinking in Asia , and different in Thailand than in Vietnam and so on....

A very sad reply. I am not the slightest bit bitter. I love my life here, and I love the Thai people. I do not love the administration. Some people can make that distinction. You are correct, I was fortunate enough to marry a younger women. She is delightful! I love the different way of thinking here. I give the Thai people alot of credit for that! I love their positivity, light hearted spirit, and so much more.

Accepting a different way of thinking is completely different than accepting incompetence, and malfeasance on the part of Prayuth. This latest catastrophic outbreak could have easily been avoided. He needs to step down. He has failed the nation and its people one too many times. Anutin too. They are in way over their heads.

I'm sure that you live in Isaan where the people are against liberals, kingdom, army: why? because Taksin and his minions come before every election and give 2000thb for vote to red shirt parties (pheua thai) . Thx mrs yingluck , 2 years during this time the farmers were ruins (56 suicides? or more ..newspapers stop to count!) 140 billions and rice disappear???? !never find ????! ...yes, after coup  that the king accept (to stop the murders -31 from red shirts - in a quiet country), Prayut had to govern. After 9 month , he found some silo with rotten rice ! ..and he pay back 70% to the farmer on the national  budget .

Did you see new lines of BTS in these 20 last years ? he did 2x 20km and 2 new lines to decrease car traffic in BKK: pharaonic works.

did you see any new train since 40-50 years? now finally the 2nd line in the south is building quickly : for train 160km/h , before high speed train and its starting for east and north !...before? ...????

do you see the new station bang sue : enormous !

the electric lines under the earth : more than 200km in south of bangkok (bang na, sathorn...): never did since I know Thailand ...

You mean malfeasance? for the 1st time in this country , the money goes to big projects not in some pockets???? . I speak about billions and billions : for this everybody has to say: thank you mr Prayut !...I didn't speat about all the groups of influence that he broke , but this way of life in Thailand exist even in your soi (ask for a new light in your road to your obotop!)

9 month without covid: sacrify the 1rst step of economy =  tourism, closing all borders . Result = 0 covid ...but there are some group of influence that he cannot stop, not yet , like obotp, obodjo...he tried last year to change the law : everybody everywhere were against him because he touch some local advantages...incompetance ?..I'd say power loneliness...I see you never had this feeling . The one who do has against him all the people who don't do anything.

The governement made some mistakes in economy : let thb become too strong last year , so, in 1-2 weeks become 1=>3 in the world shrimp sailor ...but american and chinese invest in Thailand ... difficult to manage 2nd wave covid like every country: nothing perfect.

I always hear bad judgements about Prayut ..in the beginning , I was doubting (because he is military), but I always judge people from their ACTS only , the FACTS. So from taksin to abhisit and Yingluck nothing change. P is not politic and honest , nobody never find anything wrong on him : very good point , that's why Rama 9 choose Him, I think.
