Pattaya: The beach is open but DO NOT drink alcohol, says mayor

Where did anybody say it was ok to congregate...With or without alcohol?

Everybody should just accept the fact that at some point the beaches will be closed again...look at Pattaya Beach at night and you see people without masks on, 2 feet from each other siting in a circle, which is exactly what the authorities....agree with them or not.....do NOT want. They are banning the alcohol on the beach to give people one less reason to participate in this behavior. Not hard to figure out. At least alcohol is not banned outright...yet (Thank God)

The issue is the ‘double standards’ applied to alcohol.  It makes perfect sense to ban groups on the beach, and banning booze definitely provides another reason or rather lack of reason to go to the beach in the evenings for some.

However, at the same time people can sit in groups of as many as they want an eat at the beach, or in a restaurant etc or visit each others houses.

While booze does loosen the moral compass whereby people will flout common sense application of social distancing those same people may just go to each others room or apartment.

Thus: the common sense approach is no social gatherings...  there’s nothing wrong with a couple who live together enjoying a beer on the beach.

Its simple to understand the thoughts behind this announcement - Somebody wants to be seen to be doing something and alcohol is the easy target - no greater thought has gone to this announcement than that.

Well there certainly seems to be a problem with gambling and selling shrimp spreading the virus. There's certainly a few on this forum who would also like to see a Covid-19 outbreak from "illegal" consumption of alcohol to prove their points.

Is that why they are recommending alcohol sanitizer hand washes, to spread the virus

Did you consider if alcohol wasn't banned from the beach, the beach would become one big bar or party, with the beach chair or similar people offering to do "alcohol runs" for them to the 7/11, therefore, not technically selling alcohol.
