jackspade Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 I have several bank accounts, as well as some investment accounts, but I don't have a single bank account with a minimum of 17,000 in cash for each of the past six months. I was surprised to see this requirement even though I have a letter of invitation and all my documents from a Thai company. Anyone know if this is still a requirement, or if the website just hasn't updated their forms?
ubonjoe Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 It is not required for a non-b visa application. The only visa application that requires it is a special tourist visa (STV). What website are you seeing it on.
FritsSikkink Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 No need (cash is money in your pocket, not in your bank account)
jackspade Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 I am on the Washington DC / LA Consulate website:https://thaiembdc.org/onlinevisaapplication/ There seem to be two cases. Non-B visa "With work permit" seems to imply you only need to show a paltry $700. Non-B visa "Working" indicates the need to show $700 AND $17,000 USD bank statements. There was never any indication of this, so I'm hoping it's a fluke on their website. Wouldn't be the first time, but I'm still a little anxious.I
ubonjoe Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 It appears you are looking at the wrong line on the site. This appears to be the correct one. Edit: Did some digging on the embassy website and found this category. "Visa and Certificate of Entry procedures for Non-Thai nationals wishing to enter Thailand for Conducting business/Meeting or Investing/Saving in Thailand with no less than $100,000 (or 3 million baht)" Source: https://thaiembdc.org/2020/09/12/typebspecial/ It does mention the financials. "2.9 A copy of the bank statement for the last 6 months (the balance of each month must have no less than $17,000 or 500,000 baht):
AgMech Cowboy Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I had Non-B Visas issued in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur when working for APICO, Harrods Energy & Unocal. I don't remember the amount I had to show, in my account, but the USD700 equivalent seems about right (although... on my very first one in Sept 1997, I don't even remember any financial requirement, because I was broke back then. ????????).
