What would happen if you secure a volunteering visa and then 3 months into it you decide you want to study Thai language at a language school? Are you then forced to convert it to an ED visa or would the language school let you study there on your volunteering visa?

  • You need to find a school that can get your ED visa.  Pick a location near where you want to live or somewhere central if you plan to travel, because you will need to go back every 3 months to extend.

First up there is no "follow up check" on volunteering.

As for wishing to study Thai you can pay fees to language school and study.

You can study on any visa or extension, so if you already have a valid one for any other reason, you are not forced to change it.
