Two highway cops in hospital after trucker falls asleep on the motorway

Two highway policemen were injured after an 18 wheel truck plowed into a patrol car on the motorway inbound to Bangkok yesterday.

The police had pulled over a ten wheel truck for illegally passing in an outer lane.

Senior sergeant majors Kraiyuth who was driving and Thanaphon on radio duties were taken to hospital.

Witthawat, 29, said he had made a delivery in Rayong and was on his way back to the company in Saraburi.

He said he felt sleepy and tried to fight it until the parking area at the weigh station in Muang Chonburi. There was no where before then to stop safely, he said.

He saw that the police had pulled over a truck onto the hard shoulder ahead but then he had a microsleep and hit the patrol car and the other truck.

He said it was lucky no one was killed and apologized.

Rattana, 28, the driver of the ten wheeler said he was pulled over after overtaking illegally.

The accident happened at KM marker 88 in the SiRacha area of Chonburi.

Dude should have pulled over, taken a break, and slept.  But he failed to.
Cause of accident?
Break-failure.  <slide whistle; cymbal crash; glass-breaking>

My Thai chum, a police Captain, was killed doing his job by one of these clowns...........

I don't know Thai traffic law but in England if you pull over and fall asleep on the hard shoulder you can be charged with obstruction by the police.

Yes especially on the M25, they seem to pull over and stop just about anywhere here.
