Cambodia improves in Corruption Perceptions Index

Cambodia scored a 21 out of 100 on Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2020, a one point improvement over last year’s score. Cambodia ranked 160 out of the 180 countries involved in the global ranking system to assess perceived levels of corruption in public sectors.

 

TI’s latest CPI report noted that COVID-19 had enabled corrupt practices to thrive worldwide, especially in relation to funding health care and protecting vulnerable people, although Cambodia was not mentioned as a country where this occurred.

 

TI Cambodia offered a list of key recommendations to the government to improve its score which  included amending articles in the Anti-Corruption Law, especially concerning public officials declaring assets. Laws to protect whistleblowers and grant access to information were also suggested by TI Cambodia.
