LPG vehicles and Thailand.

I left ASQ hotel in Bangkok before Christmas and had lined up a lower price Ford Fiesta to buy.

At the price i cannot complain too much.

Anyway.

Its dual fuel.

2011 1.4 engine.

Black.

There was a delay in the blue book receipt.

Finance was paid out, have the receipt.

The blue book shows black and white.

The car is all black now.

The LPG was factory original. And recorded.

I went from Bangkok directly to Buriram.

I now have the blue book.

Went to transfer to my name.

Problem one is the colour.

Nothing that say 500 baht wont fix.

New regulation requires the true colours recorded.

The gas.

2011 build.

10 years later this year.

Im being told that it has to be certified.

Since a few years ago, LPG tank has to be tested every year.

Plus at 10 years, it needs to be replaced.

DLT say that its about 800 baht each year for certification.

And without a current certificate i cannot transfer the registration.

Understand that the plates from Chonburi have to be replaced by Buriram plates.

Just this other cr#p..

DLT suggested remove the LPG system. About 700 baht.

Problem solved.

The legality of the sale comes up now.

They put new registration on the vehicle 22nd December.

In the selling price.

How did they do the rego without the LPG certificate?

And two colours is now all black..

Dealership in Bangkok says we never have these problems in Bangkok.

This is Buriram.

I obviously want to do it right.

So i can sell the beast later.

Plus put a spare tyre and jack in the car.

Donut tank.

No spare wheel.

Appreciate any comments.

Yes its a lesson learned for anyone who has a LPG tank installed..

We switched to multi port LPG injection system in December.

Tank needed to be replaced due to age and it was 7500 THB without certification.

Complete new system was 20,000 - a no brainer.

Get your system checked and certified, replace tank if required.

Take car to DLT, have it inspected, enter into blue book along with color change.

Good to go.

I don't think LPG is from the factory.

The DLT will give you a list of approved inspectors in the local area.

Can you elaborate on the process a little bit more.

Totally unfamiliar with the Thai process.

DLT is saying new certificate every year after 5 years, or remove the LPG.

But i would have thought some onus is on the dealership to deliver also.

they suggested to write on the purchase receipt

that the colour was changed.

No idea what they mean.

Still going to be 500 baht for a colour change.

But the gas system is a lot of headaches.

They put new registration on the vehicle 22nd December.

As a dual fuel.

So supposed to have presented a certificate of testing.

Many reasons given as to why they don't have.

I cannot transfer the registration to my name without the LPG certificate.

Plus a copy of the certificate for testing has to be presented every time you pay the road tax.

According to the DLT.

It is very easy. Ask at the DLT for the closest testing station. Take the car there and get a certificate.

Even better, ask one of the agents that work in the DLT area to take care of it.

Dear Dsllen,

Thats a lot of grief to go green....

Why our government does not have incentives and tax relief if lpg vehicles is beyond me... but probably has something to do with large evil oil companies of the world.

As this may be too little too late: Reform Energy is your one stop service center for DLT  and certification.

We have 2 vehicles, 1 business 1 personal that are both LPG mods from Reform Energy, that were supplied by Toyota, brand new.

We give them a Jingle, they pick up vehicles. Inspect, update and service. Usually a day or two.

Energy Reform will notify the DLT directly, and have a nice day...

Not sure if they have these in Buriram, but have someone locate for you.  Google in English will be fruitless.

Happy Hunting

I was told that too, first time cost me 1,500b. but its supposed to be the whole system, quick look under bonnet, the *tank* was not tested how can they? they only visually checked. I'm aware of the tank having to being renewed every ten years, I now take it to one of those testing stations they never check the LPG cost 200b. they do the leg work. I have replaced some of the lines myself, having it tested did not stop the cheap rubber pipes from developing a leak, thankfully i could smell the gas leak and quickly switched to petrol and fitted thicker LPG rubber pipe and clips available on Lazada.

I will add this in the hope it helps others.

The dealer was a bit miffed that the table money in Bangkok didn't help in Buriram..doh...

Based on the DLT Buriram

Advice, i opted to get it removed. LPG system.

It removed the pending problem of no certificate for LPG check and transfer to my name.

But created others

The pit crews have people who make documents materialize to meet the needs. LOL .

It cost 1500 baht to get the whole system removed.

Dealership should be paying for this!!!

I was told 800 baht for a annual certificate of compliance. DLT.

Plus a copy has to be presented every time you pay the road tax etc.

Plus a retest at 5 years.

And a new tank at 10 years.

Around 7500 baht. Tank.

There is an agent there.

One eye missing.

300 baht. His fees. Amazing.

Plus the team costs for the pits and two fabricated documents 675 baht.

One was an invoice for 4500 baht to cover the paint job and LPG removed.

Supposedly done previously and not reported.

And DLT front office paperwork and new plates. Update the Blue Book changes.

Now black only.

Was black and white.

Now no LPG.

Was dual fuel.

I copped a couple of small fines for not notify the colour of the car and LPG removed.

200 baht.

7 days and 15 days..

How could i do it?

Blue Book was in the bank.

The dealer took responsibility for this.

Missed when they processed the car paperwork.

I will add it to the list of minor concerns.

I dont think that the dealership is going to come good with compensation.

The sales person has to pay the 675 baht from salary.

They missed it,

The owner says they pay it.

A defective tyre.

Plus odd sizes.

3000 baht for 2x new ones fiitted.

The dealer says he will chip in 600 baht for the tyres.

I told him its not a game show and will pursue further with trades practice.

The stereo system was dead.

He sent me another one.

Totally different from the existing one.

Took 2 hours to fit and modify the dashboard.

Plus 1000 baht.

Dealer says he will chip in 500 towards it.

Oh 2 rear window switchs on a fiesta.?

Dont work, says hard to get.

Boll#x...

I bought the car in Bangkok after ASQ and drove to Buriram province.

Some genuine mistakes.

Some obviously sub standard dealer practices..

Price Wise still a good deal.

But obviously some pitfalls for the Farang.

Especially moving province.

And Bangkok was in lockdown, so i couldn't do a 6 hour drive and avachat with him face to face...l o l.

Bottom line warning.

I reported at Nangrong police station.

Resident.

Buriram DLT would not accept.

Immigration Buriram.

300 baht certificate of residence.

Plus a 500 baht fine for the house master. My partner.

(My house, well i paid for it.)

For not reporting residence within 24 hours.

Was still about 2000 baht cheaper than the last  one in Pattaya and using DLT agent.

Feel free to pm me if you want to see any documents.

Just night save you pain and money...

DLT amazing rules, I took my old NV for  yearly check I had removed the carboy type cover from the tray, they had to change the book to show that, how ridiculous can they be, DLT is a few hours away, so in theory if I was to need the cover on again for a day or two, i would have to have the book changed again, and again when i remove it. That ain't gonna happen.
