BANGKOK (NNT) - Health officials continue to arrange active case finding operations in communities and villages in Samut Sakhon where the majority of recent COVID-19 cases have been reported. The on-site testing service today took place in Khlong Maduea subdistrict, serving both local residents and migrant workers.

Officials from an urban disease control and prevention office have collected specimens from villagers of Bua Sri community in Khlong Maduea subdistrict, Samut Sakhon province, as part of the continued active case seeking operation in Samut Sakhon, which is the epicenter of the new wave of COVID-19 infections in Thailand.

Three royally bestowed mobile biosafety units were deployed here today to safely collect specimens from villagers for testing. Health officials aim to swab 400 people in this community, which includes local residents and migrant workers.

The proactive testing protocol was activated in Samut Sakhon at the start of the new wave of infections. The testing target has now been reduced to 2,000 tests per day from today onwards, as opposed to the previous rate of 10,000 tests per day.

Khlong Maduea is the only subdistrict of Krathum Baen district in Samut Sakhon where new cases of COVID-19 are still being reported, as the subdistrict is home to industrial factories and migrant worker communities.

Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office will continue to perform active case searches to find any remaining infected persons who have never been tested, in order to isolate and treat them properly.

Numbers of positive cases still high but testing to be reduced?

This would farcical beyond belief if true.Do they really think people are dumber than they are? It's more likely the don't care.As long as they are 4th for being able to deal with the pandemic and 104th for transparency and corruption.

Compare this with Perth Western Australia which has been virus free for over 10 months .

1 case 2 days ago caught by a security guard in a quarantine hotel, total lock down

for 5 days and tested 16000 people the next day fortunately all negative.

Percent positive has been well below the 5% threshold. And almost all from one district.

Not sure how you're getting a positive percent figure of "well below" 5% threshold in previous days?

Samut Sakhon we should be reducing tests?

Pro active testing numbers not including walk in cases in Samut Sakhon

2nd Feb = 688

1st Feb = 782

31st Jan = 731

30th Jan = 865

29th Jan = 686

28th Jan = 724

27th Jan = 714

Quick google shows Samut Sakhon to have a population of 60 000, obviously those figures are never accurate especially with a big migrant population, but it won't be off by that many multiples - how long can you keep testing there 10 000/d, without going through the same people many times?
