Downloaded From Internet Movies

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have come across a whole bunch of movies here in Tokyo, that have been downloaded from the internet and put onto DVD-R disc, sometimes 6 movies per disc.

I play these movies via an external DVD burner/player whatever it is, via USB into my laptop, Laptop into 19" LCD Monitor via VGA cable.

Will I be able to play these movies on a DVD player direct to TV in Thailand, or will I have to VGA cable to the TV?

It sounds like they have been saved as an .avi file, which will play on your laptop. To play on a DVD player, you will need to convert the avi file to a DVD file. There are software that will do that for you.... for a freebie, try "DIKO". Or Google "Convert avi to DVD" and look at the response.

There is no need for conversion to DVD format - the data DVDs you have can be played on some standalone DVD players, namely those that play DivX and XviD.

For only 2000-5000 baht, Robert will be your father's brother. Go to your nearest Carrefour, Big C, Central or whatever store you like, and bring with you two or three of your sample discs with movies. Ask for a DVD player that supports DivX format. Ask to try your discs in the player with a TV, and satisfy yourself that they work before buying.

Granted, there will still be *some* files that wont play because of codec issues. These will have to be converted, but the vast majority will play, provided you get the right DVD player. My personal experience with my Pioneer player is that it plays about 95% of avi files.

By the way, these downloads are being made outside Thailand, I dunno what speed you'll get in Thailand for downloads, I'm in Tokyo, it's pretty fast here!!!

Strange how when I mention using pirated copies of windows software the mods are all over me but when some one steals movies they don't say anything.

What's the difference?

Because you can download movies without pirating. Some are purchased online, some are public domain, or the copyright has expired. You were blatantly condoning piracy. That, I imagine, was the difference.

Ohh and buying 6 movies on a DVDR isnt blatant enough ??

Same double standard exists with HD-DVD.. Posts about breaking HD-DVD's region control and encryption are removed yet DVD region free tools and DeCSS are not..

Ours is not to reason why..

Yeah movie download and no DRM ? gives me a good laugh this is all pirated content period. But well looks like MPAA don't pressure Thailand as does MS hehe

and the other 5% that does not play on the divx players can be converted to the right codecs and burned to a dvd disc using a software called "Super Converter" This software is freeware and a superb one at what it does. I bought my Divx player for 1,700baht i think at Big-C with a USB plug in. (just in case you do not want to waste a disc)

My laptop has a video out plug which I connect to my tv with an rca adaptor cord making it easy to play anything on my laptop on my tv. Works perfectly. I wonder how much it costs to get a video out card for a laptop if yours doesn't have it?

I should add that I'm not so tech savvy and there was a learning curve trying to figure out how to make the various media players automatically fit the video to my tv screen, but that was the only difficulty.

Piracy issue aside, perhaps the OP could share his website with the rest of us so we can let him know what speeds he can get here in Thailand.

I bought a standalone DVD player from Carrefour that has yet to display any sort of 'disc error' when it comes to playing PC-format files. It's called 'Kenny', and it's a small, black and white player that goes for about 1700B. Very highly recommended, it seems to be able to play just about anything.

Your mileage, of course, may vary.

BFD!

btjunkie....

Of course, the speed depends on the ammount of seeds that are sharing at the time. For Instance I have downloaded at only 2 Kbps for some files, and 400 Kbps for others, popular music tracks can be downloaded in less than 20 seconds, other tracks can take considerably longer.

Just in case the files are pirated, no urls please.

PM the OP for more details
