Visa Change: ED Visa to Tourist Visa (Covid Extension) to Volunteer Visa

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I can’t find the perfect answer so I’m posting this topic:

My ED(ucation) Visa ist extending on 26th February and I don’t want to go with this. My plan was to switch to the Volunteer Visa (possible).
But now I think about, to use the Covid Extension (on a Tourist Visa) first (until April) and change after to Volunteer.

Is it in general possible to switch from ED Visa back to Tourist Visa and then to Volunteer? Has somebody maybe already experience?

Thank you in advance.

Go with the covid extension.  It is likely they will just keep giving them indefinitely until the borders open normally.

Made an mistake : ) The ED Visa is expiring not extending.

Thank you a lot. So it's the best way to stay on my ED Visa and apply with this for an extension, without paying the school anymore. Thought, when I stop studying, the ED Visa is also ending.

I assume you have a extension based upon attending school not a 90 day entry from a non-ed visa.

You need to cancel the extension with a letter from the school stating the last day you will attending school and you would apply for 60 day covid 19 extension as soon as that is done.

Would the cancellation need to be done at the same immigration office where you got the extension, or can it be done anywhere?

We are offering large discounts in FEB for this type of conversion ED to Volunteer (5k+ THB discount FEB only).

It would make little sense to apply for the 60 day extension if wishing to use an agent for your yearly extension.

You didn't say how much it currently costs, but last year agents asked for about 40k for the volunteer option, which would be about 3500THB per month.

Getting 60 day extensions for 1900THB (so about 1000THB per month) would be quite a bit cheaper.

Thinking you need factor in other costs. I recently had to do 90 report in person MTT.

Pretty much waste of a day, time wise. I traveled MRT and then taxi each way.

Might be wrong but do the covid extensions have an under consideration period and then second trip for stamp?

I know what I would choose in a heart beat. Pay 40+ and be done with it.

Less if you already have a non O.

For a conversion from ED it could be up to 8k less than the price you mentioned.

But you would need to confirm with my staff via LINE as it does depend on a few factors.

Next month our prices go back to normal, so it would make a lot of sense to do it now.

I'm pretty sure we are the lowest priced at the moment (by quite a bit).

Ubonjoe, I have the similar situation. My last day of university is March 5th, but ED visa expires on April 30th. Do I apply immediate with COVID extension or wait two weeks prior my ED expires? Thank you

I think the covid extension gives you 60 days from the day you apply, so its better to wait if you can.  If you do it on march 5th you will only get until about May 3rd.  But I'm not sure if thats possible because apparently you will need to cancel your current extension with a letter from your school.

Technically your extension of stay (it is not a visa) on the day you stop attending the university.

To avoid problems it would best to cancel you current extension and the apply for the 60 day extension on the same day it is canceled.

In normal times you could just leave the country without needing to cancel your extension but that is not always feasible now.

There is no rule or regulation that states it starts on the day you apply.

But in the above case he will need to cancel his current extension and apply for the 60 day extension at the same time and it would start on that day.

Is there a certain amount of weeks you need to do this before the extension of stay expires since they do the under consideration thing now? My extension of stay ends FEB 25 and that is one year I will be in the country and I want to switch it to a COVID extension. Thanks.

You only need to apply before your current permission of stay expires.  When you are under consideration you get an extension of your permission of stay until the day you are supposed to report back to immigration.

The under consideration stamp allows you to stay until your extension is approved. No need to apply early for that reason.
