Thai people lying to avoid losing "face"

Featured Replies

I can understand people misleading others in order to avoid responsibility for mistakes, but it seems that Thai people have developed this to an art form.

Don't they eventually run into problems, even with other Thais, let alone Westerners ?  Sometimes it goes on past the point of absurdity.

I'm interested in other peoples' thoughts and experiences on the topic, without bashing Thais too much. The same thing goes on in the Philippines and other Asian countries.

18 posts and already started the Thai bashing. What lies are you specifically referring to ? I have been here 6 years and have never noticed an epidemic of lying that affected my life in any way. Perhaps you are hanging around with the wrong crowd ?

At least you admit you are trying to get a Thai bashing thread going.

Saving face is usually about avoiding embarrassment, not an attempt to avoid responsibility.

Thais may blame brake failure for a car accident, to save face, but they still accept being responsible and pay compensation etc
