Howdy,

I'm American and when I came in August it was via a repatriation flight, visa required before boarding, Letter of Entry from embassy, and a 2 week say at ASQ.

My mother is hoping to come visit in May (she's American also.)
Does anyone know where things stand:

-Are commercial flights available?

-Is a visa required?

-Is a Letter of Entry from the Embassy still needed?

-Are there any ASQs that offer beach access?

-How long can an American tourist stay?

Thanks for your help ????

Semi-commercial flights available

Yes: If not retired, married or have children it´s best with special tourist visa.

CoE still needed

Regarding beach access, I have no clue. Most will be quarantined in Bangkok.

As long as your visa permits you to stay, or as long as you can make extensions.

The requirements for entry are the same for those from all countries.

Semi commercial flights are available.

A visa is not required. She can enter visa exempt.

A certificate of entry is required.

I cannot answer your question about the ASQ.

She can get a single entry tourist that allows a 60 day entry or enter exempt that allows a 45 day entry. Both can be extended for 30 days.

Info is here on the Thai embassy website in DC.  https://thaiembdc.org/visas/

AFAIK there is no beach quarantine yet, but there is golf quarantine!  As of January.

It looks like right now they all want you to pre-pay, which presents obvious risks in case you can't make your flight.  But so do some of the Bangkok places, especially ones with outdoor access.

Even as a non-golfer, I would seriously consider the golf quarantine, because it would make a massive difference to be able to walk around outside for half the day starting with Day Two.

It actually depends on how long she intends to stay.

Entering Thailand Visa Exempt will provide her with a 45 days permission to stay, and entering on a 60-day Tourist Visa will provide her with a 60 days permission to stay.  Both of these can be easily extended - but only once - for 30 days at any Imm Office.

And there is of course when wanting to stay longer than 75 days or 90days from the options above, to subsequently apply for a 60-day covid-19 extension.  The current covid19 extension expires end of March, but these 60-day covid-19 extensions will as good as certain be prolonged, with next one expiring end of May, then end of July, and so on until border-restrictions are lifted.

Considering the hoops that have to be jumped through when applying for the STV, simply entering VisaExempt is for sure a far better option.  But it obviously - like any entry currently - requires to meet the CoE requirements.

Note: STV might be considered when she intends to stay longer than 6 months, but she also needs to be aware that after 2 STV extensions (each providing 90 extra days), she then would have to leave Thailand, as there are no other extension options for the STV.

While having entered VisaExempt, there is of course also the option in the unlikely case that 60-day covid extensions will not be provided anymore, to apply for a 90-day Non Imm O Visa at the local IO for reason of retirement (+50 years of age).

Visit where?

Bangkok obviously no beach but some nice river view hotels, Chonburi can get seaview with balcony, Phuket (if could get direct flight and have somewhat deep pockets) she can get a nice pool villa to chill out at:
