February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post For a year I had friends in the U.S. telling me how envious they were of me. COVID-19 raging everywhere there and very little here. Now, almost all my US-based friends in my age group are posting online about receiving their second Moderna or Pfizer jab, while here there's no telling when we'll even start. How things can change....
February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post I think if Thailand would have the same amount of dead persons because of covid, maybe they would also be interested in faster ongoing. But now even when your age almost all your friends received a shot, it's still more dangerous in US than here in Thailand. I am very impressed about how people always find something to complain. But of course it's the same as in the news.. nobody want talk about good things.. only always about something which they not like...

February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post So, if living in fear of catching Covid for a year wasn't enough, now they've had to take an experimental vaccine. Sheesh, double whammy. We are so lucky to be in Thailand. Tell 'em.
February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post well, so now time for you and them change countries. would you swap?
February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post So, the OP might have been better off in the US, unless Covid killed him.

How things can change.... I begin to have the same feeling. It's still much better here than in the West But if they let the mutants in via Burma, or if they accept "vaccinated" (which proof?) tourists or tourists who say they staid in "home quarantine" before traveling..(there is another thread about this) If they let these into an immunological naive Thai population, we may still regret living here. And don't think that you get a vaccine in Thailand before 2022.

February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post Another big difference is that most of the expats in Thailand don't have to go out and make a living every day. Another way to say that is that most can't work in Thailand. Unlike most of the folks we left back home. If they could (and had to), the Thai restrictions would look a lot more onerous, as business after business closes down.
February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post Same situation here in New Zealand. The media here has made a big point of reporting how bad things are in the UK and the USA (and by definition, how lucky we in New Zealand are) but now we see that those same countries are vaccinating at speed while we just started vaccinating yesterday with 70 - yes, just seventy - people vaccinated. The rest of the New Zealand population can expect to get vaccinated some time over the next year - and that is assuming everything goes to plan. When the UK and the USA are travelling and enjoying full freedoms again, we'll still be stuck here.

February 20, 20215 yr Popular Post Got my first jab last week but will never come back with the current restrictions and rinsing techniques employed by this rancid government it was never going to be anything different ????

How things can change.... Vaccine start or not....I've had virtually no restrictions on me as compared to the USA during this entire pandemic period. I travel, go out when I want, shop where I want, and with the exception of a few gym closings and one chair per table at restaurants...life is virtually the same as before. Absolutely cannot be said about life in the US where people are still squirelled away in their homes afraid to go out and about.
February 21, 20215 yr I've got mixed emotions about it. On one hand, my parents in the USA got the jabs already. I'm happy for them. On the other hand, there's no prospect if or when I'll be able to get the jab here in Thailand, and it may only be the useless Sinovac vaccine that is available. I'm hoping there will soon be a consensus about vaccine certification for travelers allowing people to travel again without quarantine. Once that happens I'll take my chances and fly somewhere to get my jab, update my visa situation at the embassy while I'm at it, then fly back.

Why would a handful of expats working change the restrictions?

Go to the forum "Farang food" or whatever it is called for enlightenment. You got me thinking that I was wrong so I Googled cheese with holes in and one of the sites that came up was this one. https://culturecheesemag.com/cheese-iq/style-highlight-swiss-cheese-with-holes/ Those holes in your cheese indicate a specific type of Swiss. This cheese’s proper name is Emmentaler because it originated in the Emmental region of Switzerland. Emmentaler is distinguished by extra-large holes and a unique flavor. So what in the world causes these gaps in your snack? They are due to a starter culture of bacteria added to the milk at the start of cheesemaking. I thought that I was correct but I didn't check before posting. What the name of the cheese was doesn't matter as it was about holes similar to the the holes in the border between Thailand and Myanmar.

Not really. The holes in Emmental are completely surrounded by cheese, nothing gets through them. There is a great, and large, Emmental cheesery in Emmental: very much worth a visit when this is feasible.

Once that happens I'll take my chances and fly somewhere to get my jab, update my visa situation at the embassy while I'm at it, then fly back. Yeah the next issue on my radar is where I can go for the jab. I can go and get it in the UK sometime in May or June, but I'm only eligible for the AZ one and the way I see it that's going to be obsolete by about August anyway, so better to stay here if the situation stays the same. I can't see the US preventing the pharma companies selling to private hospitals once their population has been done, so maybe it will be possible to go there for the jab (as a non-US citizen, I mean). If they're going to be through by July that's really not that bad. If the Pfizer and Moderna jabs continue to hold up against new variants, there'll be a slack period once Europe and North America have been done, because there aren't any other large blocs that will spend the money, and boosters won't be due yet. In that scenario there could easily be supply for private hospitals in Thailand towards the end of this year.
