You used to think the government would have to bug us to spy on us. Nope, we pay $1000 and bug ourselves for them. If you don't believe me, just read some of your TOS of the apps you have. They actively 'listen' to you all day long. It's why you can mention "Steak Dinner" in a conversation and get shot restaurant ads when you get on the phone next. It does not prevent the operating system from using location data or communicating that data to the network." Perhaps most crucially, a device can still be tracked, and its location discovered, even if cellular is turned off the phone. Popular Post bdenner
With all this procrastination as to whether a smartphone can be tracked or not when powered down we are not talking about an app developed by the NSA, CIA, FBI (or any other combination of the alphabet) it has been developed, by what can only be described as, a dodgy 3rd world government agency/s! You'll be lucky if the phone itself doesn't catch the Covid Virus. Edited February 23, 2021 by bdenner 3
Kaopad999
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. If it's their way of working to track people to prevent the spread of Covid, then so be it. Very basic smart phones can be bought at ridiculously cheap prices. If people can afford to travel half way across the world, then they can surely afford to buy a cheap smart phone . And for the people who say they do not wish to be contacted while they're on vacation, then there is a very simple answer to that. Just use the phone exclusively for the Covid tracking app, and don't install any other applications, or give your phone number to anyone. It really is that simple! 1

And no need to use roaming when you can buy a SIM card and top it up for a few hundred THB which would last a whole month. ...
thaiger843
Always the same argument here, why should you care if you have nothing to hide? Everything you do can be used against you! fdsa
When someone says "I have nothing to hide" I usually ask for their Facebook password. Despite I swear that I will not post anything and will only read their messenger chats - no one ever agreed. It seems that I meet only dodgy people ????

recom273
What happened to this app? I was going through the (deleting) installed apps on my phone yesterday and I noticed this, never used it. martin81
As i see the app is still required by Thai embassys to enter Thailand. I would probably install it in my oversees phone to use while traveling but when in Thailand I rarely turn data roaming on as it is very expensive. I don't think many tourists will pay the very expensive thai data roaming fees. So how can they collect data from ThailandPlus app when data is turned off? I usually mostly use another phone with a Thai sim card while in Thailand as data usage is much cheaper on a Thai sim card. But this Thai phone I do not use oversees.

My understanding is that they get your location (position) through the GPS functionality which is independent of data. This is what enables you to use maps offline after downloading them. 1

Quite so. If you have any sort of phone, smart or not, or use the internet, or credit cards or drive a car or walk past a camera, your privacy is sacrificed in some way, like it or not. Do I like it? No. But for all the loss of privacy there are some advantages that I use so I have some little choice. It is what it is.
