The editor in chief of the Chinese language online news Angkor Today has been ordered deported after he published an article, saying Cambodia sells China-aided COVID-19 vaccines.

According to a directive issued today by Interior Minister Sar Kheng, the Chinese editor-in-chief Shen Kaidong was ordered to be expelled and barred from re-entering Cambodia. Meanwhile, Information Minister Khieu Kanharith also issued a directive revoking the license of Angkor Today because the owner Ung Kongkea published exaggerated news on Wechat which affected public health and caused national chaos and insecurity.

Shen was arrested yesterday in Siem Reap city where his online news outlet is based and was sent to the General Department of Immigration of the Interior Ministry to be deported to China. His arrest was made after Health Ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine denied the publication of Angkor Today and called on the authorities to take legal action against it.
