BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Land Transport has organized a “Free Vehicle Check-up for Road Safety” campaign in cooperation with auto service centers nationwide for both cars and motorcycles from March 10 until April 10.

Director-General Jirut Wisanjit said this year’s Songkran holidays start as early as April 10 and the department estimates that a lot of people will travel by road to their hometowns or tourist attractions, which could result in a spike in the number of road accidents.

He said this campaign, therefore, aims to urge owners to keep their vehicles in the best condition to prevent any accident and promote road safety for all.

Mr, Jirut said vehicle owners can avail of free check-up services at participating service centers nationwide. The free check-up will cover up to 20 items, such as the brake system, tyre condition, wiper blade condition, motor oil leakage, lighting and signal systems, air filter and more.

Would be a good idea if the people at land transport were Qualified to do the checks, instead of young people straight off the street, who wouldn't know a bald tyre from blue headlight

Hmmm.. i suspect there will be more cars put  off the road, then on the road( if the tests are done properly which I seriously doubt.... TIT)

I am reminded of the car bomb check at the Hard Rock Café in Pattaya; two alert looking men push a mirror under the car for two seconds, salute and you are home free.  They always miss the Nuclear device on the front seat.
