April 1st still on the table for Thailand's opening to foreign tourists

Thai media Daily News continued to maintain that April 1st would be the date that Thailand begins its path to accepting foreign tourists again.

They published a story that reported the Thai minister for tourism and sports Pipat Ratchakitprakan as meeting a delegation of tourism operators and associations from Surat Thani led by the deputy governor of the province.

Representatives came from the holiday islands of Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan as well as the mainland to present their cases for the opening of the country.

Daily News said that Pipat will be proposing to a meeting of the CCSA (Covid steering) committee at the end of next week that visitors be allowed from countries such as the US, UK, Italy, Germany, China, Japan, South Korea and India.

Without elaborating further the media harped back to previous reports from Anutin Charnvirakul, DPM and health minister, who favors 7 day area quarantine for  those foreigners who have received two doses of vaccine and ten days (not confined to hotel rooms) for those that haven't been jabbed.

The media said that such a plan would inspire visitors to Thailand from many countries.

Thaivisa notes that potential visitors to Thailand could be forgiven for being confused about contradictory messages coming from different ministries.

Pipat and Anutin would say they have a common goal though it is plain they have their own proposals and agendas.

Potential visitors to Thailand would be well advised to wait for firmer decisions at the CCSA main commitee on Friday March 19th before deciding their next move.

Even then keeping a watchful brief would be advisable.

Reading between the lines April 1st seems to be a date for the next stage in "quarantine easing" for tourism while October 1st remains a more realistic date for a broader return to mass tourism with less restrictions.

Looks like Pipat just spouted off before putting his brain in gear. Did he not stop and think before stating first of april? Surely anyone with even half a brain would never have said first

yes, April 1st 2025.

8 European nations including Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Norway and Iceland have decided to stop using the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine due to serious blood clot incidents reported in many countries.

a very small minority, only several%, of potential travellers are being vaccinated now.

The second dose is given after 2 weeks to 3 months.

Certificate of vaccination or "covid passport" will be given only after the second dose started to work, so another several weeks.

But, most important, thai vaccination program is only at 4k jabs a day. At this rate it would take many years to vaccinate medical and other essential services.

Many countries are putting now ban on travelling for it's citizens. If they leave country without good reason, they would be prosecuted on return.

Did the target countries get the memo that they are to drop their travel quarantine and restriction guidelines?  I can't see China letting unvaccinated people travel to a country where no one is vaccinated.

Excellent point when you consider the one million village health care workers.

Does he ever stop and think?

A lot depends on if tourists have to quarantine if they go on foreign vacations. Also, who wants to go first and risk countries shutting their borders again if there's a flare-up of cases and travelers can't get home? I won't be doing any foreign travel until the pandemic is declared by the national level disease control agencies officially over.

The old sensationalist headline again "opening to foreign tourists"

Realistically a reduction in quarantine is all they are considering.

TAT should have been on a one year furlough, sent to towns to cook and hand out free food instead of earning a salary during a time when there  simply is no tourism for them to "hype"

Insanity can be life threatening to others

In my modest opinion, I don't think any number of tourists, apart from few long-stayers, will come back before quarantine is lifted. In short terms vaccination is the way to go for opening up, including reasonable number of vaccination of own population before opening, which should be possible with islands, including restricting tourists' movement to areas that are safe for the local population to allow foreigners into.

Another lockdown period fue to too fast reopening for tourism could be a larger financial disaster than extended quarantine with few foreign visitors only.

Think? And then stop

yeah that’s right

With the glacial pace of their vaccination programme, they'll just be getting into gear injecting people against Covid-19 when Covid-22 will already be surfacing.

April fool?

Yes, they have decided to stop using the AZ for the reason that it has exactly the same amount of blood clots per million as per the normal population without the vaccine  ! Better stop the population from driving, eating chocolate and having sex due to the same amount of deaths per million too.

Welcome to Thailand. Mingle with millions of unvaccinated locals, maybe a trip to Chang Mai to breathe in today's world's worst air pollution in one of the duel entry priced national parks, yep, I can imagine it now, millions of tourists champing at the bit to come here, not.

They have SUSPENDED vaccinations during examinations of the patients with blood clots.

30 blood clots in 5 million vaccinations!    There is NO suggestion that the clots were caused by the vaccine!  There would be more than this in a pre- covid time.  Don't cherry-pick your news sources.

Anyway, if you will refuse yours (in favour of the Chinese one?)  can I take your turn in the queue for Astra Zenica please?

They seem to forget that there are no commercial tourist flights from almost all countries and Thai Airways are grounded cos they are bankrupt. So how will tourists get to Thailand ??  Will have to set up a committee to look into that small problem.

What a date.

Busy doing nothing and trying to find lots of things not to do. Very fitting, suits this lot to a T.

Wheel them in. April 1st should be a good day to start spreading Covid in Thailand. Only requires one or two to be missed on arrival and the number will shoot through the roof.

Good Thinking Prat Man!!

There is no indication that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is linked to an increased risk of blood clots, the EU's medicines regulator says.

It said the number of cases in vaccinated people was no higher than in the general population.

They're going to be in for a bit of a surprise when nobody comes.

Utter rubbish 22 cases and no

Evidence that the vaccine is the cause , more scaremongering

These guys can't get out of their own way. Yesterday it's October 1st. Today it's April 1st. LOL

And ThaiVisa's problem is that they print every rumor, true or false, further confusing everyone.

They are far from a news organization.

Logic and reason are not Anutin's objectives.  Cheering up those who depend on the tourist industry is his aim.
