You need a ASQ hotel reservation and a confirmed flight to have the COE pre approved. You can change the dates later if you need to.

Assume you can change the date of your arrival for covid 19 insurance since that is the date it starts.

If I still remember correctly, you do not need yet the ASQ and confirmed flight to get COE pre-approval. But you need the COVID insurance that will cover your stay. Then once pre-approved, you will have 15 days to complete the rest of requirements, e.g. ASQ, confirmed flight.

It would be good if the policy date can be easily changed later, e.g. via the tipinsure web site. I think it's only insurance that's required for pre-approval of the COE. So then I could pass pre-approval using an arbitrary insurance policy date, and make ASQ booking with arbitrary checkin date. When eventually relief flight is announced by Thai embassy, I can change the policy and ASQ booking dates.

The pre-approval e-mail could be within an hour or could take a day or more, it depends how busy the Embassy is.

Thanks, though this part in red may not be 100% true as insurance provider asks for arrival date, so you're meant to know it before pre-approval. That's what the original post was asking - what can be done if you don't yet know the date. unbonjoe assumes you can write an approximate date when buying the insurance, then later change it when known exactly. It would be great if anyone who has done it can confirm and describe how easy and quick it was (specifically with tipinsure if possible).

How far can I go in getting a COE without knowing the exact flight date?

Can I get the required insurance without a precise arrival date? In https://www.tipinsure.com/CovidRegional/step_1 it asks for Date of Arrival. Can I enter anything for that?

I have been in the same situation and decided not to finish my application... I will try it a second time in April...

Your insurance cover can start any time before your entry date, it doesn’t have to start on your entry date. You just need to ensure you are covered for the minimum period from the date of entry (3 months if I’m not mistaken).

I have recently been issued a CoE using in insurance certificate from July 2020 (which highlights cover for 1 year).

Thus: You can buy 6 months insurance now and travel any time in the next 3 months for the insurance still to be valid for CoE purposes.  But, if you want to maximise insurance to the day, or use the exact minimum 3 months insurance, then you will need to know your travel dates.

IF you don’t yet know the exact date of travel, is that because you may be getting a little too far ahead of the game? If so, once you know your dates you can apply then.

Its good to have the insurance cover you wish to go for all lined up, so all you have to do at that time is re-engage dialogue and pull the trigger and secure cover.  Thus, you can submit documents and get approval for cover and have the insurance on standby awaiting payment and confirmation, documents and certification.

The Thai embassy has a waiting list for future relief flights, and in order to get on it they ask for a copy of passport and insurance certificate. I'd like to get on the list ASAP, as waiting until I know the exact date of a flight that I could board could result in missing out on a sooner flight because the list is long. I was told people who got on the list in January could only fly in March.

Yes, adding some buffer is an option. I'm just trying to avoid wasting money as the insurance would be useless until entering Thailand. My flight could be 2 months away, just don't know yet.

There are semi-commercial flights from many places now that could get you back with no waiting list.  Are you able to use these?

I can vouch for that statement.

Step 1: Submit primary documents.

Log onto the following Website https://coethailand.mfa.go.th

- Sign in with Name / Passport # etc

- Upload your documents

            - Passport ID Page

            - Visa / Extension of stay

            - Supporting documents if required (Marriage Cert / Wifes ID or Passport)

            - Insurance certificate

- Submit the application (click submit at the bottom of the page)

You will receive an e-mail from the Thai Embassy (of country of application) informing you that your application for CoE has been confirmed, you will be given a 6 digit pin (this pin is important - this is also the pin you use for the Thailand Plus App along with your CoE code)

Next (within a few minutes) you will receive an e-mail from the Thai Embassy (of country of application) informing that you your application for CoE has been Pre-approved

The pre-approval e-mail could be within an hour or could take a day or more, it depends how busy the Embassy is.

IT IS AT THE NEXT STAGE YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW YOUR TRAVEL DATES AND HAVE FLIGHT BOOKINGS AND ASQ BOOKING - STEP 2 NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF PRE-APPROVAL.

Step 2 - Submit travel documentation:

Log in to the Website  https://coethailand.mfa.go.th - upload travel Data section. Use your PIN to log in (*you will have received the Pin with the Pre-approval e-mail)

Upload your Flight Details, ASQ Details and Insurance certificate (again) and submit the application.

Step 3 - Receive Certificate of Entry by e-mail:

You will receive an e-mail from the Thai Embassy (of country of application) informing that you your application for CoE has been approved. Your CoE will be attached to that e-mail.

This e-mail could take a few hours or a few days (depends how busy the embassy is)

---------

NOTE: IF your CoE is specific to the date of Travel - Thus, IF at any time after you have received your CoE and wish you change your travel dates you can do so and e-mail the embassy to request they resubmit the CoE for your modified dates.

Looking at the initial application it doesn’t ask for the Health Insurance Cert. ?

I plan to return in May/June, I would like to book the flights and ASQ in the next couple of weeks rather than wait till my COE was approved as trying to book last minute flights can be expensive ?

Could I apply for a COE now or  do I have to wait 15 days before my departure before applying for a COE ?

It does, 2 sections down from passport page upload.

It's an option, but from 5 to 20x as expensive and may require stopover(s) that may be long.

Take another look - you submit the Health Insurance cert when registering for the CoE (its further down the first page)

There is no harm in booking your flights now - You don’t need CoE approval before you book your flights.

Once you have your flights, you can secure your insurance. You can also book your ASQ at that time (I recommend Agoda - bookings are fully refundable)

Go through the CoE application process when you have all your documents in place and its a very simple process.

You don’t need to wait until 15 days before departure, you can apply for CoE at any time. You have to present your travel documents (flight ticket and ASQ booking) within 15 days of receiving Pre-Approval.

You can get all your documents together first and complete the process quickly, but you still have to submit in the two stages (as I described them earlier on on the post).

It took me 3 hours from registration to receiving CoE (the speed depends on how quick the Embassy is to respond).

You need to Register first with stage 1 documents then receive a Pre-Approval E-mail and a PIN code. You then log in with your Pin and submit travel documents. Then you receive the CoE via e-mail.

Its a simple process.

How can I apply if I don’t have my travel dates therefore no insurance ?

You can’t apply for CoE without the insurance certificate.

Get your travel dates, book your flights and ASQ, Get your Insurance and Certificate (which states cover for Covid-19 complications up to or beyond $100,000 - the cover must be for at least 3 month from date of entry).

You can submit your documents and apply for CoE at any time (I submitted all my documentation and received my CoE 5 weeks before travel).

It seems the first thing for you to sort out is your travel dates - the rest will fall into place.

Turn it around; why do you need to apply if you don't know your travel dates?

You can apply whenever you want. The 15 days is only a time limit to finalise after confirmation of initial registration.

What I trying to ascertain is I have a rough idea when I want to travel and I will be applying for 2 possibly 3 COEs, for myself and family. What I am trying to find out is if I book the flights for April and also the ASQ when can I apply for a COE, 15 days before e travel ?
