poppysdad
One of the readouts on my car dashboard is litres per 100kms travelled which is really meaningless to me. I would much prefer miles per gallon or as it is over here kms per 1 litre which makes more sense to me so does anyone have a formula to change it from litres per 100 km. LosLobo
Really depends what country you are from! The world agreed to go metric back in the 70's thank God only a couple of countries reneged!

Crossy
You may find that you can change the readout. Time to locate the manual. Be aware the gallons may be US gallons.
Surelynot
One litre per 100 km= US gallons x235 Proper gallons x 282
Popular Post LosLobo
Conversion Calculation Miles per Imperial gallon = 282/(litres per 100km) Miles per US gallon = 235/(liters per 100km) eg say a Toyota Corolla @ 6 litres per 100 km Miles per gallon = 282/6 = 47 MPG Edited March 18, 2021 by LosLobo
KhunBENQ
Open google.com Enter: "l/100 km to mpg" or "l/100km to mpg imperial" (without the ") you will see a "widget" where you can enter your l/100 km. Thanks heaven I grew up metric. Not weighing stones or height in feet ???? At least I know now that my car makes about 32 miles per US gallon. So worthless with the metric distances on the signs and "milestones" being "kilometer stones". Edited March 18, 2021 by KhunBENQ

LosLobo
..... Oops I didn't read the OP properly ???? Conversion Calculation - Kilometres per Litre Kilometres per Litre = 100/(litres per 100km) eg say a Toyota Corolla @ 6 litres per 100 km Kilometres per Litre = 100/6 = 16.7 km/l

And roughly multiply km/litre by 3 and take 10% off. eg 10km/litre = 30 - 3 = 27mp(UK) gallon. Edited March 18, 2021 by KannikaP
poppysdad
Thanks loslobo. Kms per litre makes much more sense to me than litres per 100kms especially on short trips. Also what I’m trying to work out with figures I understand is what is the most economical grade of fuel to use.

Gasoline has 50% more energy than Ethanol, thus you can do an equation like this to compare E20 vs. Gasohol (current Gasohol 91 price is 26.98): 26.98*((20/1.5+80)/(10/1.5+90)) = 26.05 E20 currently costs 25.74, so you pay less money for the same amount of energy with E20. The same for E85: 26.98*((85/1.5+15)/(10/1.5+90)) = 20.00 E85 currently costs 21.34, thus with Gasohol 91 you get more energy for your buck. -> Currently the most economical fuel is E20
poppysdad
Thanks Jackdd, I always use 95 octane in my CHR which seems to give me plenty of oomph when I need it and having just done a little over an 800km trip on a single tankful of fuel which I thought was excellent going and as it seems I might well be doing this trip a few times a year in each direction makes a little curious as to what grade of fuel will be the most economical on these trips. ctxa
A little off-topic here. But while reading the post it just amused me how cultures affect our thinking. For example, back in my home country, we all use liters per 100 km. So if I think about kms per liter that would be like meaningless to me. However for OP liters per 100km is actually meaningless. Really curious, isn't it?
