Has anybody arrived in Thailand recently on a visa exemption? Did you need to provide outbound flights? I am trying to work out what my options are, since none of the nearby countries are open. I would assume that if I try to show a flight to KL or Singapore as an outbound flight it would be a problem because tourists aren't allowed to enter those countries.

Some embassies and consulates want a ticket out of the country to apply for the certificate of entry (COE). And some airlines as well.

Search for onward ticket and you can find many websites offering temporary tickets for a reasonable fee.

How do these websites work? Do you just pay an upfront fee, or does the website make you pay for a ticket and then refund money later? I'm leaving Vietnam permanently, and whatever I spend on my card here, I would never be able to retrieve again if refunded later. I can't access my Vietnamese account once I leave the country. And do these companies let you choose your outbound destination? Because the main issue is whether you'd be questioned for having a ticket to a nearby country that doesn't allow visitors.

You pay fee of about $12 for a temporary ticket valid for a certain number of days.

Here is one that came up in a search. https://onwardticket.com/howitworks?gclid=Cj0KCQjwl9GCBhDvARIsAFunhslK7inng6RojCiLlXjFdzqNOvtr6Andc8X977bEvbZd23zmKEI4oDQaAmskEALw_wcB

There are longish threads on FB, where after a quick scan, which indicate that Thai embassises and consulates have different requirements. Some require a return ticket, i.e. a round-trip, AAA-BKK-AAA, some require an onward ticket, AAA-BKK/BKK-BBB. Some don't seem to require anything more than a one-way ticket.

YMMV.

I don't think there are any BKK-KUL direct, non-stop flights right now. Know some folks who had to fly BKK-SIN-KUL recently to get to KUL, transit at SIN is OK now. No clue if you could use a throwaway/internet for BKK-SIN?

What airline/routing are you planning on using for VN-BKK? There is a once weekly (Fridays) Vietjet flight SGN-BKK.

What are your long-term plans?

Hi, I don't want to go into my long term plans just yet. Flights to Singapore are very cheap, but I don't think they'd be accepted as tourists are not allowed into Singapore. So the rented flights that UbonJoe mentions might be the best option. That Vietjet flight is no longer running. All flights seem to be SGN to BKK via SIngapore.

What makes you think that?  It's still splashed all over their website and bookable for this coming Friday.

I'm not lookingf for this week. I am looking for late April. I tried every Friday on their website and every search said no flights available. I even tried searching every other day. I have looked through the whole of April and got nothing. There may be ads but when you try to book the flight you get nothing.

Even when I try to check for flights for this Friday coming up I get this:

Flight Date Departs Arrives Flight Detail ECO DELUXE SKYBOSS

There are no flights available for your specifications

Even as I search I am bombarded with ads about HCMC to Bangkok flights but when you search it you get nothing.

Yeah, that spalsh screen threw me off too, until I drilled down.

AFAIK, only one-stop service through places like SIN, via SQ and Scoot metal. Book on SQ website.

Clean your cookies or cache or something - I'm seeing these flights every Friday from now until the end of April (I didn't look any further) and can take the process right through to the payment page.

Just looking again now. 14,000 baht would be insanely expensive though since it's only 4000 to fly via Singapore.

Just looking now. Nothing on any day through all of April. They mustn't take bookings from a Vietnamese IP address. Tried on several devices.
