It looks very thin. They say its ok but i know family in Sweden and Serbia who made their houses with big bricks like 15cm. Boss tells me they will also put on 1cm facade on each side. is this really a standard in Thailand. What are my options. Put 2 layers of bricks and make it 13cm? father is making a damn good job so im not complaining about the profesionalism but instead it looks so thin that i think the walls gonna fall down when opening the doors lol. All input is welcomed , good as ironic :)

There are no freezing temperatures in Thailand. That might be one of the reasons for not so thick walls.

Thicker walls will keep the heat out of the house, same as they keep the heat INSIDE the house in colder climates.

Correct. However in freezing climate it is necessary to make sure the house is not freezing.

In hot climate it might be nice to keep the interior cool and help saving energy. But it's not necessary.

You might want to thinks about the noise pollution. Thicker walls help keep out the noise. Also easier to cool down the house....thicker walls = better insulation. The added cost is minimal.

 

That is a very thin wall with 6 cm. My walls at my condo are too thin for my taste and they are about 12 cm in total. You need to be able to install water pipes and things for electricity (including wall sockets) and TV and Internet. Perhaps you also have heavy things that you want to fix on the wall.

Ty all, As i suspected, it will be an added cost of 20000thb in bricks to make the wall 13+ 2cm in facade. The man said he could do the walls with 2 bricks in thickness. and i will go that way. ty all

I agree. I already bought nice doors and windows with thicker glas and very good noise insulated. Would be funny to not hear any sound from road through windows but instead I hear it all through walls

Walls here are just filling in between the columns.

If you are using red brick you will get sound and heat coming through. If you’re going to add a second skin then AAC blocks will be much better for sound and heat protection.

This isn't the 1950's you know. Houses in Thailand should not be built using old fashioned bricks since better technology is now available. Bricks make the inside too hot. AAC blocks should be used and go as thick as 25cm if desired. Something as important as a house you need to think about heat and noise. The beauty is all said and done AAC is just as cheap as bricks.

That's ridiculous. Bricks of larger thickness ARE available, I built with Q-Con blocks, very easy to lay, using special mortar, and if your guy can't do it or isn't willing to learn, get rid of him.
