Has anyone driven a Thai registered car through Malaya into Spore? I know the Malaysian requirements but wondered what is required to cross at Woodlands. TIA.

Have a look at the LTA (Land Transport Authority) website in Singapore, it has all the requirements.

I did look in to it when working in S'pore long term but decided it was too much hassle, you don't really need a vehicle in S'pore the public transport and taxis are superb, even at silly o'clock AM.

Thks - will do. Yes, I agree about the pointlessness of a car whilst there, but I’m thinking of doing it more as a way of getting there and parking up.

In this case I would suggest to park at the Malaysian - Singapore border and go from there by train or bus or taxi.... if I'm not mistaken, it will cost you a lot less than in Singapore.

To be honest, I'd fly, it's probably cheaper than driving the best part of 2,000km too.

The current covid situation would prevent you from driving through Malaysia anyway.

I lived in Singapore for many years until my recent move to Thailand. It would make no financial sense to do what you're considering. Flying and then taking taxis/trains would be a lot easier and cheaper. Singapore uses financial (dis)incentives to limit the number of cars to keep traffic moving.

Along with the LTA requirements (autopass card, road tax, insurance, 14 day Vehicle Entry Permit), there is no place offering free parking. The LTA site estimates it would cost you S$380 to keep a car for 14 days:

This sure sounds like a great trip! Be even better with a camper. Lots of nature off the beaten path in Malaya! S*it--I'd like to drive Burma to India, Cambodia to Vietnam, Laos to China.!

OP,

If you are looking at the travel to not expose yourself and others to potential infection.  You may drive your car to Singapore.

However, I made this trip pre Covid. Breezed right through.... bought an easy pass or similar, and only stopped for fuel in Malasia.

Now, you are looking at quarentine in 3 countries....   unless you are government, military or health professional  authorized..... your best move is not to move.

I have done it, but many years ago, be careful what you carry in the car in the way of expensive equipment, we nearly got pinged for duty coming back into Malaysia with a camera.

It is a great trip though,be sure to stop for a couple of days in Ipoh,

Luclily the customs lady found a small "duty paid "stamp on the bottom of the camera.

You cannot do it at present due to Covid restrictions
