220v, no problem. But would 60 cycles make a difference in "lastability" if they were basic 4500 watt units; i.e., no fancy electronics? And didn't crank them up all the way?

 

Protection set-up still function properly?

I can't imagine an issue with the controllers or insulation.

 

The question is, why? Are on-demand heaters not available in the US?

 

There could be issues with legality (and insurance) as they wouldn't be UL certified.

Far more expensive there. And the more reasonable ones aren't UL listed either, so not sure how they get passed.

 

I'll be building in a rural area where I grew up with the county building inspector. Told him I wanted to use ones brought back from Thailand and he shrugged and said, no problem. Probably have to buy him some BBQ for lunch.

 

Used them for years here; never had a problem, and the price is right.
