Phuket arrivals in other provinces face quarantine measures

PHUKET: People from Phuket heading for Surat Thani or even Krabi now face quarantine on arrival now that Phuket has been classified as a ‘red zone’ for COVID infections amid the current outbreak.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported 1,390 new coronavirus cases on Monday, slowing slightly after a run of record daily highs, amid a new wave of infections that has seen a third of the country's cases recorded this month alone.

PHUKET:-- The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has announced that the electricity supply will be temporarily shut off in parts of Patong tomorrow (Apr 20) and on Thursday (Apr 22) as work is carried out on installing new high-voltage cables.

Thai FDA discourages use of rapid test kits to assess immunity after COVID vaccination

Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has advised against the use of commercial rapid antibody test kits to assess immunity after vaccination, due to their unreliability and possible false results.

Stringent anti-COVID-19 measures in parliament

BANGKOK (NNT) - Additional measures to stem the spread of COVID-19 are being taken in parliament, after a coronavirus case was reported in the building. Work guidelines have been adjusted to minimize contact, with meetings taking place online. Not all legislators have been vaccinated, as the government’s vaccination program does not provide them with such special privileges.

Public Health Ministry - Supply of favipiravir is adequate to treat COVID-19 patients

BANGKOK (NNT) - As the latest wave of COVID-19 spreads across Thailand, the majority of infections are being reported in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Ratchasima, greater Bangkok, Chonburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, while there is limited spread in other provinces. The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that Thailand has an adequate supply of antiviral drug favipiravir for treating COVID-19 patients. The country currently has 500,000 favipiravir tablets, with a million more on order, to be received by the end of this month.

Thailand gets 100bn baht foreign investment for 2021 fiscal year

BANGKOK (NNT) - Despite the new wave of COVID-19 being a major concern in Thailand, the country is still known to be attractive in the eyes of foreign investors. The foreign investment figure from October 2020 to March this year was valued over 100 billion baht, with the automotive industry being one of the star players.
