PHUKET: Efforts are underway to determine the natural erosion of the base of Koh Tapu, better known as ‘James Bond Island’, in Phang Nga Bay in the hope of preventing the iconic pillar of rock from toppling into the sea.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) Warawut Silpa-archa, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, inspected the site last Thursday (Apr 15) for a briefing on what action is being taken to protect the natural landmark, which has drawn countless thousands of tourists to see the towering karst, famed for its inclusion in the classic James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun.

Joining Mr Warawut for the update was Phang Nga Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada.

Yes, they've been staring too hard at it.

But don't blame the authorities for allowing the thousands of tourist boats that have added to the erosion for decades now.

What's the chances they accidentally collapse it?

Very high.

I've seen areas, like this photo from Sam Pan Bok, where they like to prop sticks under rocks for good luck.  Maybe that would work.

No photo description available.

Perhaps two giant lollipop sticks strapped to it vertically on two sides with a rubber band would do the trick.

It worked for me in the past.

Maybe get a bunch of guys in uniform to point at the erosion in a photo would help?

I'd like to suggest a concrete wall and scaffolding around it.

How would they explain that in each language to foreign visitors? A sort of Berlitz Wall.

It is always the dirty white man, always.

Oh, and don't forget the dirty tourist, of course.

But most of the time they also white.

Just let it collapse already. It's preserved for eternity in said movie.

If they can't fix the erosion on Pattaya Beach after every heavy rain they will never fix that. Maybe need to hire the team that kept the Leaning Tower of Pisa from colapse.  Below  a few pics  for those that might not remeber what it looks like.

James Bond Islands Tour

Invent a description to replace the hackneyed word 'iconic' and maybe someone will show interest.

It's easy! Drill a core and cement a blue PVC into the core.

A conservateurs choice!

Why Bother?

We can't keep books and supplies in elementary schools in outer provinces...but let's spend money on an old movie scene memory?
