Online petition demands resignation of Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul

An online petition has been launched demanding the resignation of Anutin Charnvirakul as public public health minister.

The petition, which has been organised by the group Mor Jai Mai Thon, or  ‘doctors can’t stand it anymore’, says the minister should resign because of his failure to “resolve the outbreak of COVID-19”.

According to Thai language news site Sanook, the petition had over 50,000 supporters as of Sunday (25 April).

The organisers of the petition say Anutin has repeatedly demonstrated that he is not up to the job of managing Thailand’s COVID-19 response, including on policy, management of resources, vaccine procurement and has failed to build confidence amongst medical workers on the front line.

The group cited a series of quotes which they said have been made by Anutin since the virus was discovered in Thailand.

One of the quotes was of Anutin allegedly dismissing the virus as nothing more than the common cold.

In another alleged quote, Anutin took aim at doctors who he said had not been careful in avoiding infection.

Anutin of course first came to the attention of many expats in Thailand last year following a xenophobic outburst targeting foreigners in the country.

In March 2020, speaking on live TV he used a term in a derogatory manner to criticize “Western tourists” and  foreigners from Europe for not wearing face masks.

He also said Thais should be “more careful of the farang than Asians” and said “many farang dress dirty and don’t shower”.

He later apologised for the outburst in a post on social media.

  • Resigning doesn't exist in Thai vocabulary. Transfer to inactive post sounds better?

  • A petition? Really? This pack of thieves that calls itself a government couldn’t care less…and has an unblemished record of consistently ignoring what is good for the Thai people. They're only concern

That won’t succeed , but would be happy if I’m wrong. He is the worst of all those clowns up there and I truly hate him for all the bs/hate-speech coming out of his mouth!
He would have already been substituted many times in any civilized country, but after all this is TH, where power/connections/money count more than expertise.

RESIGN YOU DIRTY........

Trouble is....

He is just one bad apple in a barrel full of bad, rotten, corrupt, lying, (you get my drift!) apples.

He will just be replaced by another like for like.

Plus he is very creative. He described his prison term in Australia as 'voluntary community work'.

it makes me want to ask: Witch which doctor was it and what happened to him? Hope it wasn't food poisoning.

Yes.  The construction billionaire has no reason nor standing to be at the head of the Health Ministry during a pandemic.  That is sheer insanity.
They need a qualified doctor and health care administrator like Dr Suphat Hasuwankit chief of the Rural Doctor Society who just excoriated the Prayut government.  There is a doctor who may actually change the course of events during Thailand's own Covid epidemic.

Unfortunately Dr Suphat Hasuwankit although being ideal for his medical knowledge, wouldn't be suitable - he seems interested in the patients and not money or bigging himself up.

Even if this guy gets booted out, another <deleted> guy will replace him. Change at the top is necessary!

Change at Clapham Junction: Platform Seven for the man with the medical emergency.

Don't feel bad for Anutin; he is reaping where he had previously sown.

He just didn't understand who his real boss was.

A mistake he has shared with others.

I wouldn't risk it unless it is totally untraceable. Especially for a foreigner.
