Thai DPM and commerce minister Jurin Laksanawisit told Daily News that despite the surge in Covid-19 cases there were no plans to U-turn on opening Phuket to foreign tourists in just over two months time.

 

Jurin said that when infection goes down tourism will go up.

 

He'd been to Phuket and expressed optimism in the vaccine rollout there that has seen 100,000 doses delivered. 

 

Thai domestic tourism would be promoted in June and then foreigners from July 1st. 

 

It was not reported where he hoped these foreigners would come from or what they would be allowed to do after arriving in Phuket.

Clown! When the entire population has been vaccinated, maybe then tourists will return, maybe!

The official population of Phuket is ~500K so that would mean that ~1M vaccines are required. Just giving people just 1 injection of Sonivac won't work, the efficacy is very low with just a single injection... ????

does not include the 50,000++ migrants, nor the expats living here

No the golden goose is not dead, it's just severely constipated. Unfortunately the vaccine laxative wont arrive for months due to mismanagement. 

Best wait for entire Thai population to be vaccinated. Learn from premature opening for Songkran and consequential surge in infections. 

With the new thai Aztrazeneca factory in may, that's doable to vaccine 70% of Phuket.

500,000 people X 70% = 350,000 people

And how are the long awaited tourists supposed to get to Phuket ?  No planes are flying from most of the countries, definitely none from Australia.  Thai Airways won't be flying for years, if ever again !

These rich Indian millionaires all travel with their own private airplanes and or yachts..????

the efficience of none of those 'vacines' on the market has been proven, whther given once, twice or three time.  Everybody everwhere 'assumes'...however given the fact the process of developing and testing has ben telescoped together from about 6-8 years into 1 year does not make the whole thing promising easier. But everybody can beleive what they want to belive. It is all about that IMHO. Learn to live with a virus with an IFR of 0,15% (Ioanidis /Mrch 21) worldwide.

 

And yes Thailand has to find a way to open up for tourismn and to have clusters like Phuket or Samui ist not a bad idea. Tourism is about 20% of the GDP and cannot be ignored. 

 

Also my I remind of the colateral damage done in the world...suicide, child abuse, depression....just to mention a few plus the businesses that went down the drain. In my opinion the colateral damage is already bigger then what the virus did do. Just when you say things like this you being called strange names. But it is the truth. This one at least is.

Really most doctors etc say if you get over 70 % population vaccinated would be good enough . Never going to get all the population vaccinated ????

Frankly, a few vaccinated tourists put through the thai examination process as they enter the country are the least of my worries. It’s the locals who haven’t been vaccinated that concern me!
 

That and the fact that as a westerner in Phuket, I have no access to a vaccine myself even though I would be willing to pay for it.

How would he know about any plans to cancel this 'grand reopening'?

 

I suspect he would get a memo the day before it happens as a courtesy from his masters,

 

Americans who are vaccinated will be able to travel to the EU, why would they want to go to Thailand.
