Woman Fatally Shoots Popular Female DJ Over Debt Dispute in Chana, Songkhla
In an incident driven by a bitter debt dispute, a 60-year-old woman shot and killed a well-known local radio DJ in Chana, Songkhla Province. The victim, 40-year-old DJ Wanida Thongyod, was a popular host on a community radio station and a TikTok personality with a large following in the area. The incident occurred on October 3 at a laundromat in Saphan Mai Kaen, where the suspect, identified as Ms. Pornpimon “Nee” Sawatroj, confronted the DJ over a longstanding debt issue. Armed with a .38 revolver, Ms. Pornpimon fired multiple shots at the victim, striking her in the back of the head. After the shooting, the suspect took the wounded DJ to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. According to police reports, the dispute revolved around a 200,000-baht loan, which Ms. Pornpimon claimed had gone unpaid. DJ Wanida had guaranteed the loan for a friend, a local teacher, but despite numerous attempts to settle the debt, the matter remained unresolved. On the day of the shooting, tensions escalated, leading to the fatal altercation. Eyewitnesses described hearing three gunshots followed by screams. Ms. Pornpimon was seen conversing with her daughter outside the laundromat before her son-in-law, a police officer, arrived to assist her. Upon realising the gravity of the situation, the officer helped transport the wounded DJ to the hospital. Surveillance footage from nearby cameras captured the incident. DJ Wanida’s sister, Ms. Khwanrudee Thongyod, expressed shock and sadness, stating that her sister had always treated Ms. Pornpimon as a maternal figure. The two women had been close, and Ms. Pornpimon had been a strong supporter of Wanida’s online presence, often referred to as a “fan mother” for her role in encouraging the DJ’s success on TikTok. Despite their previous close relationship, the debt dispute proved too much, ultimately leading to the tragic shooting. Ms. Pornpimon later surrendered herself to local authorities, admitting to the crime and claiming she acted out of anger over the unpaid loan. She now faces charges of premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm. You seem to think that the Thai tax issues affect only wealthy individuals and ignore the vulnerable, average and aged expat pensioner retiree who has no experience of managing or filing tax returns. My interest lies in trying to help the average and below average member, many of whom are deeply scared and confused by all things foreign tax related. My past tax, finance and Big 4 work experience, combined with the fact I have lived in Thailand full time for over 20 years, may be of help to some of that group. Those things are why I mostly ignore the never ending debates about CRS and foreign DTA's. I have no interest in the tax affairs of people like you and others who talk in terms of buying 1,000 Apple and being concerned at the tax implications when you sell, or the large dividend payments given to you by your parents. If you can afford to buy 1,000 Apple you can also afford to put your hand in your pocket and spend 20k at Ernst and Young and get the best Thai tax advice that money can buy. So exactly why you even bother to log onto this thread, especially given that you live full time over 8,500 kms away. is extraordinary, to say the least! If there are members of AN who risk millions in tax as a result of CRS, they must be some of the cheapest rich people on the planet, in order to have such wealth yet seek tax advice from a social networking forum! I am personally aware of at least two AN members who talked in terms of self harm and required support and intervention, such was their fear of what might happen to their paltry income in retirement here as a result of the tax changes. Meanwhile, you talk about the millions at risk overseas by wealthy expat, dear Lord, we're not even on the same planet, let alone the same subject. I will be very happy if you wish to add me to your ignore list, that way my contributions won't interfere with your enjoyment. -

Ok, so where would you rather live? I had some very good friends, both passed on, but who were staunch communists. You know, defend Stalin, lovely eastern Europe full of happy people etc etc. Famine, what famine? But would they go anywhere near the Soviet Union, or latterly, Russia? Absolutely not! Because they were old school, they saw the world through a purely ideological perspective. It didn't matter what the Soviets did, it could only be for the common good. I find this completely duplicitous and delusional. I don't think you can compare Putin's extremely repressive policies against journalists, indeed, against all Russian citizens, with anything in the West. He started a war (yes, he did) which every Russian I've met in Pattaya, and there are a lot, absolutely hates. Many are in Pattaya for that very reason. And it's a war against his own ethnic group, while claiming a sort of holy war against Kiev's Nazis who would prevent Russians from speaking Russian. Hitlerian, to be sure, casting Ukrainians as the untermensch from which oh so racially pure Slavic Russia needs to cleanse itself. Only one link this time, as I concede most reports on the war are heavily biased one way or another. It's impossible to tell fact from fiction. Six-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Falling into Water Retention Pond in Chonburi
A 6-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water retention pond while playing with friends in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The incident occurred at 15:00 on October 5, at a large retention pond that is part of a local flood management project. Police Lieutenant Nevin Suntuwanik, along with rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation and a water rescue unit, were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a child drowning. The pond, which is about 3-4 metres deep, required divers to recover the body of the young boy, identified as Montree, nicknamed “Pok,” from the bottom of the pond. A security officer at the site, Mr. Watcharapong (surname withheld), aged 47, recounted that two children came running to him, shouting that their friend had fallen into the water. He rushed to the scene and saw the boy struggling to stay afloat but was unable to rescue him due to the slippery algae-covered edges of the pond. The boy’s mother, Ms. Dao Chuan, 35, a Cambodian national, was devastated by the news. She explained that her son had been playing outside as usual but rushed to the scene in panic upon hearing that he had fallen into the water. She expressed deep grief over the loss. Authorities have transferred the boy’s body to Bang Lamung Hospital and are awaiting family arrangements for the funeral.
